Speaking of hawks.... Hannibal is back. I give up....I stopped feeding the birds for two weeks. As soon as I added seed to the feeder, Hannibal was back within minutes. I think his/her nest is somewhere nearby. Yesterday, I was grilling my dinner and viewing the doves scratching around for the dropped seed under the feeder. I walked into the house to get a clean plate for the steak -- maybe all of 3.5 minutes -- came back outside to see nothing but a pile of feathers of a 'former' mornning dove on the ground. Amazing!

Peterson's didn't help. Oops. Need an ID.

Yes, young Cooper's. Cornell Website has a nice accipeter identification page. Cooper's exhibit the heaviest part of the body in the breast, sharp shinned has a lower center of gravity. We had a juvie Cooper's last year and he is still here this winter, along with a very large, very beautiful female who has included our property in her hunting area. They stop and check our feeders out daily. Good photo. I'm enclosing the link. I found it very helpful. Here is a link that might be useful: Accipter ID

What do museum people know? The tail alone makes it not a Broad-winged; way too long. It's a juvie Cooper's. -O-
