What predator would do this?

We live in the northeast Georgia mountains. Known predators are coyotes, bobcats, bears, etc. My neighbor sent me this email this morning:

"Sunday morning around 5:30am we heard a haunting sound below our property near the river. We woke to the sound of a panicked cry - much like a baby crying in the woods. We jumped up, relieved to find our dogs were safe, but dismayed that something was being attacked in the darkness. We turned on the lights and shortly the sound stilled. It was so quiet. With a large light, we saw no movement or eyes shining.

The next morning we walked around and found a young deer caught underneath the bank in the river. We got it out of the river, and we were sickened to learn that all of its skin, ears, and face were gone.....and the internal organs had been eaten. The skeleton and muscle and fat was still intact."

What animal would do this? Any ideas?
