one bit of advice is that the hole in high up. If you use it as a nesting box make sure the inside wall is rough enough so the little ones can climb and flutter up to the hole when they try to get out. either that or put the hole further down on the front. don't put on a perch cause bigger birds can land on perch and reach inside. the hole size depends on what birds you want to use it there are charts you can google that suggest hole sizes.

The house if for the Titmouse. The hole is the correct size and the height is per spec. The wood is rough sawn redwood. I've seen titmice cling to even smoother surfaces. I hope the chimney and dormers dont serve as perches for predators.

It looks really nice actually, functionally cute. I am assuming it is either front or side opening for cleaning or monitoring and that it has vents??

My only criticism would be your comment about it ending up in a tree. A proper birdhouse should be mounted on a slick metal pole (conduit) with a predator baffle to deter climbing predators. It should be at least 15 feet away from trees or fences that predators could jump from. Mounted on a tree it is open season for raccoons, squirrels, snakes etc. If you care at all about the Titmouse you want to attract to it, do not mount it on/in a tree.

I heartily agree with Donna. Don't mount your cute birdhouse in a tree, or preditors will surely eat the eggs or the birds. A metal pole with a baffle is the way to go.

a lot of people around here have switched over to pvc pipe pole with a cement base if you want to move it around or buried in the ground if it's going to be permenent. The critters can'r hold on to the slick pipe so you don't have to baffle it. as a precaution you can spray the pole with silicone sprey or even pam and make it ever more slippery

dklucius, don't be so sure critters can't climb pvc, I would never ever trust that! I had a coon climb 1/2" conduit this year, wouldn't think they could do that either but they can and conduit is pretty slick in itself. Plus with conduit you don't have to mess with cement.
