Zinnia's! Also Cosmos (the orangey-yellow ones), Sunflowers and Mexican Sunflowers (Tithonia), Touch-me-Nots, Mexican Petunias (very invasive, though), Marigolds, Morning Glories, Tropical Sage. I don't know if birds like any of these, but hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and wasps of all kinds do. Dill, cilantro, basil.

Bold malar marks, streaked flanks, long tail, rather unstreaked upperwings with covert markings, and the bill appears to be gray- I cannot rule out Song Sparrow from here. Any other opinions?

Thanks, Old Forester! I thought #7 was a catbird given the color (and I could hear a few in the park ). I hadn't see a mockingbird this year in DC till this one. #5, 6, 9 were all foraging on the ground and there were several of them in mixed flocks with the mourning doves. The beaks of all three and the colors on 5 - I was hoping they were some kind of grosbeaks. Thanks again!

I agree, it's Heliconia psittacorum. There's a number of colour variations but they're very invasive and hard to control in the ground.
