Hi! Thanks. To me it looks like a dark eyed junco, they live in your area in the winter/cold seasons and the gradient of light to dark looks right. The wide beak also looks like a junco's. Hope this helps!

I considered juncos but this bird has a dark beak and the dark color doesn't extend far enough past the head to be a junco..

Yes :) just thought phoebes were too small but I do agree

such a huge variety of birds..phoebe was my best guess..looked at chickadees but the phoebe was the best match I could find..it's adorable isn't it?

I know nothing about birds but kinda leaning towards phoebe. I can say the dark feathers did not extend past the head. It was a little bird, at first I thought it was a baby. Don't think it looks like the dark eyed juncos I saw when googling

Don't know if same birdie but DH caught same or maybe another this morning. It was in his tool shed, sort of banging his body against window, trying to get out.

I read phoebes build nests on structures..you seem to have a shed that is attractive to them..we had a carolina wren that was building a nest on top of a cabinet in our garage..we leave the garage door up a lot when we work outside..it would fly right by our heads..we had to keep the door down to discourage it..there were no eggs in the nest thank goodness and we removed it..is your bird building a nest?

He/she could be contemplating the shed as a location but so far no evidence of one. The bird seemed calm in DHs hand

"Seemed calm" but actually just so traumatized that it is possibly near death. But then, I have a hard time seeing birds being tagged by so-called experts.

I asked hubby to hold for a few seconds while I took pic. When he opened his hand birdie took off just fine. But he could have been paralyzed with terror, I suppose.
