Molly, from the look of the flowers and the fact it was labeled as a climber, my guess is it will turn out to be a Joseph's Coat. Both this and Don Juan are favorites of the mass producers who fill body bags for discounters such as Wally World. It is also very possible it might be Pinata, bred from Joseph's Coat. Thanks Kt, I have a feeling a couple of these might get too big for my yard. The Chusquea seeding is one of many that resulted from one of two plants that flowered almost two years ago. Like most of my bamboos they look their best during the 'rainy' season here--during the dry/windy season they lose leaves even though they are well mulched and watered. I thought you might have an idea about the ID. It may very well be a Pleioblastus--I think only time will tell. When I got it, it was fuller, but it didn't seem to be getting any taller than a very low ground cover. I almost lost it, but it's coming back now. I'll post another picture as it fills in more and see if it gets any taller. thanks for the compliments! puravida Here is a link that might be useful: garden photo blog

I think I'm growing this one too. Does it have milky sap? Do you know what the name is? If it's the same one I have BE CAREFUL of the thorns as they are quite poisonous and will leave a very sore spot that gets all red & bruised looking if you are pricked.

I have them in my garden but I have a wild garden and I have different ideas about what makes a good plant than a lot of people. I don't water and it doesn't mind. . It comes and goes as it pleases. I do not find that it is a thug. I like the color of its leaves.
