Ettiquette

Hi all,

New to this forum, tried looking for this in other threads, didnt find much.

My question is around ettiquette :)

What appear to be cliff swallows, have built a nest on my patio lamp. Since I didnt want to disturb them, I shut my patio out to visitors and me. Yet sometimes I'd peek through the blinds. The birds would see me and fly away, only to return later. Now I would love to be able to open the glass sliding door to my patio (leave the screen closed and not go out so as to not scare the birds).

My question is:

1. If I do that, will I frighten the birds?
2. The nest has little ones in it now. Will I frighten the little ones?

I'd like to be able to hear them chirp and if possible even venture into my patio, but I don't want to do so if there's even the remote chance of them being frightened. Let them propagate in peace is what I'd like. Attached a picture of them, from during construction.

:)
Thanks much
