Specific seeds blackbirds don't care for???????

For years, I filled feeders only to have them 'attacked & raided' by blackbirds (bb's). Then found I was attracting mice. So I stopped altogether.

This year, I found some Nyjer seed tucked away...so I put a little out on a tray on my porch railing.

And lo and behold, no bb's bother it. I have a few doves that come all day long, as well as a random black-capped chickadee and some house finches.

This is absolutely fine with me. I can't afford to feed a LOT of birds. Plus, they don't make a big mess and attract the mice. I love them feeding on the railing because I can lay in bed on my "bad days" and watch them out my window.

My question is...is there any other type of individual seed I could buy to attract even more varieties that the bb's would leave alone like they do the Nyjer seed??? Oh, but I don't want to attract squirrels on the porch, so nothing they like either.

Thanx,
bonnie
