Congratulations to you! That is a terrific new bird to have. It's so interesting that the females are so very different. Those birds sure do LOVE the grape jelly. They also enjoy oranges. You can slice some up and put them out on a plate for them, or you can buy a fruit feeder and hang it up for them. Here is a link that might be useful: Fruit feeder examples

I put out nectar, oranges and grapes (not grape jelly) and have both Baltimore and Orchard orioles, Ruby-throated hummingbirds, Gray catbirds, Rose-breasted grosbeaks, house finches, and others eating almost constantly. Cathy, I'm amazed that your oranges aren't more popular, we go through several a day with the orioles and catbirds the main indulgers. My woodpeckers don't eat the fruit at all. elke, no need to add food coloring to either hummingbird or oriole nectar, they will find it just fine without. And I use the same ratio for both as both hummers and orioles eat from either type of feeder - apparently no one told them that the little red feeder is for hummers and the big orange one is for orioles, lol. here its different i have evening grosbeaks and blackheaded grosbeaks both nest close by here and they bring thir young to my feeders and at this time i have close to a dozen young grosbeaks comimg and going all day and i stand at the kitchen window watching them from just a few feet away. they do get more flighty as they get older though.

This has been my best bird day, ever! Not long after posting this, several Northern Orioles flew in too. "The Gang's All Here!" and they're certainly making my feeder tree and post very colorful. Linda OHnowGA ~ Do you use the "upside down" finch/nyjer feeder? It restricts the seed so only the goldfinches can get to it? That has helped keep some of my costs down. Of course, the Pine Warblers here can eat upside down, too, so they "share." And the doves are always on the ground to pick up the leftovers. Ont Gal ~ There has been a rumor that there have been nesting cardinals in Grand Forks for the past two-three years. I haven't seen them yet, but I keep hoping. Lynn D ~ I've never seen an Indigo Bunting "in person," but I certainly hope to. They have got to be magical. RTHummer ~ f you send me a pair of cardinals, I'll send you a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks! How's that for a deal? Bird on, ladies; Bird on!!!
