Blues vs. larger birds

You experienced Bluebirders may have seen this before, but I never have. I have witnessed Blues fighting Blues in the spring, but have never seen them taking on larger birds before. A pair of Bluebirds showed up at my mealworm feeder a few days ago. They have young ones in the trees which they are feeding. I do not know where they nested. Once they discovered my feeder, they started defending it. They won't let any other birds within twenty feet of it. Just today I witnessed them taking down a Robin that that landed in a nearby tree. And then I saw them take down a Baltimore Oriole that landed on my deck railing (about 15 feet from the feeder). It is an enclosed feeder and the larger birds could not gain access to it. The Bluebird's offspring are in a large tree about 50 feet away, so their tenacity really surprised me.
