Everyone is supposed to bring their own plates, napkins etc. What ever non alcoholic drink they want and a covered dish.

BTW, y'all should she her pothos. She has it growing in a flower bed. The leaves on the ground are your standard size leaves. BUT, those growing up the wall and chimney are huge. Probably 15 " wide and 20" long.

She got a real deal on gerbera daisys. You watch, when I get there today, they will all be gone.

Well, I got my 25 cent gerberas and more. We were picking over the $1 plants and a worker came up and asked if we wanted plants. We ended up with two of those tall racks (the ones they move plants on) of plants for $20 and $15 each. Also two puny (4" pot) butterfly bushes for 10 cents each.

Kathy, that is exactly how it happens to me. I just get asked, and of course I have not will power. I got 9 of the $.10 butterfuly plants, 32 of the hugh gerbers, and 4 of the $1 perenials, I love the purple butterfly bushes. You saw my hidding place in the rock flowerbed. This is where I put all my plants until I can figure out what to do with them. My husband hardly ever goes over there, and has never figured out that all those plants, are in pots and not in the ground. That is why I put them all so close together. I am going to the coast tomorrow after work, so I will pack the back of my car tonight, problem solved. Barbra,

Roselee, first let me tell you how many plants Diane and I got. Diane counted and we got 546 plants for $50 and change.
We went to Lowes.
I am digging things I want to take to the new house and wanted cheap to fill in the holes. I sure hope the buyer of this house likes mums, because that is the majority of what we got. I am clipping off any dead blooms and then they'll leaf out. At least it will be something green in the empty bed in back.

I don't know what it is about Kathy and Barbra but they always get those Lowes deals! I've been to that Lowes too, right after leaving Barbra's house (huge pothos!) and I can never find those deals!!

Michelle, I went Monday to the new Lowes, I just stopped by to look to see the new Christmas Village Houses, they had this year. I just drifted into the garden area, I was not looking for anything, believe me, I just potted all the dayliles I just received from Marryotts, and was not looking for anything to plant. I had to verify with the girl at the register, if the prices posted were for real. She said yes, I could not believe it. I told Kathy the next day when she came by to get the pots, she went the next day and they still had stuff. Kathy said the man at Lowes said he threw away three dumpsters of plants the day before. I think this was Kathys first time, getting really cheap plants from Lowes.

How was your Maryotts order? I sooo want more day lilies but haven't had the spare $$ for an order yet. Those ones you gave me from your front yard haven't stopped pumping out flowers since the day after I got them from you!

PS, I "think" I may make the back yard at the new house, as small circle of grass with beds around it to the fence. I think I will need the edger to keep the grass edge smooth/straight. Also I want to plant items around the storage shed.

Ops sorry Kathy, I totally mixed you and Barb up! And I'll take day lilies from anyone. I've decided they are the easiest thing to grow since bermuda grass but much prettier!!

Kathy, did you get everything planted? I just got back from Rockport, I was still planting this morning. I got some wonderful plants at the Masters gardeners sale. Yesterday, I helped Ruth, she brought down a trailer full of plants from her house, in addition to the plants she bought at the sale. Strangest thing, she is right on the water, but she has clay soil. She had hugh holes dug, I put mushroom compose and mulch on the bottom, with slow release fertilizer, then filled up with miracle grow potting soil. The water would not drain, and I was not able to pack down the soil. Does anyone have any suggestions on the proper way to plant in clay soil? She has such beautiful plants, she needs to know the right way. I am use to planting in sand, and sandy loam, I know nothing about clay soil. Barbra

Ideally, a raised bed with topsoil at least 6 inches or preferably more might work okay. Otherwise, install the plant a couple of inches above the ground level and then mound the clay soil back around it.

I have clay on top of rock and I dig down to the rock level and fill back in with a mix of compost/soil and clay. It seems to work really well since everything has been growing well.

Okay guys, somebody tell me they want Aloe saponaria because I just dug out some big ones to bring. These are not the little Aloe veras that you find in the herb sections of the garden center, but the big blooming ones. But their leaves can be used just like Aloe vera for bug bites and burns.

They are among the big three that provide the most color in my yard through the season along with phlox and bougainvillia. They are hardy in San Antonio.
