Flycatchers are back & playing games again!

Last year we had a pair of Great Crested Flycatchers nest in our yard and were lucky enough to see them rear 3 babies.

Well -- they're back and the nest this year seems even messier than last. There's a hunk of fur (looks like it's been ripped off a carcass (ewww) ) -- lots of feathers and a large amount of snake skin -- in fact Mama brought almost an entire skin to the box, took what she needed and left the rest on the ground!

It seems just like last year they're playing with us and just when we think the nest is finished and it's time to start laying - they disappear!!! Hopefully it's just something 'they do' and they'll be back soon. Mama Blue laid her 4th egg (2nd clutch) today -- we were hoping she and Mama "Fly" would be laying about the same time but I guess not, and so long as they're all ok it doesn't really matter.

So... I will keep those of you interested in the antics of our Flycatchers posted... hopefully we'll have more news soon.

(Not able to get a good pic of the nest yet and as we're leaving it alone for a while to make sure we don't spook them we won't be taking any soon but when (if) we get some good ones, we'll post them.)

Thanks Bridget I remember you from last year. Please do post the pics and give us the scoop. I really enjoyed hearing about them. I learned a lot.

Well -- not much happening. Have hardly seen or heard our Flycatchers but last night one paid a visit to the fence near the bird house. Didn't appear to go in. Saw only one again this morning -- 2 x (or two different birds at two different times???) -- it didn't appear to go in -- just sat there calling and calling, but they're sneaky so who knows. May have to try the piece of grass across the entrance trick...
We heard a couple calling to each other across the trees but we just keep seeing one on its own -- hope that something hasn't happened to one of the 'pair'.

Meanwhile ----- back at the Bluebird Ranch, Mama blue is incubating her 2nd clutch of 4.... with "baby girl" from clutch 1 looking on....

Dorothy...I was out shopping tonight, but not for Christmas gifts!!! I needed potting soil for my brugs....the roots are wanting soil! Isn't it crazy? I wish my ex would vanish for months on end. However I know the kids are devastated by such behavior of a parent. I can't imagine it being a mom. It's difficult for me to understand or wrap my head around a mom like this. Crazy! I think you did the right thing. They don't need in and out, up and down from her and if that means you protect them from it by keeping them busy then that is what you have to do. What a flake... Her parents should be ashamed of her but unfortunately they probably have no clue! my parents have touched with this issue a little with my brother not being a hands on non custodial parent and it is embarrassing. Especially when people ask how his daughter is and they feel like they just have no clue what to say. But he is grown and they know they can't say anything. Have fun on July 4th! We are going off to the lake too. Going to see the in law's.

If you join BigFish, you pay $6.99 a month for a game credit ... and can then buy any game you want at that price. (except for the Collector's Editions, those cost more) I like to save up a couple months and buy one of the bigger Hidden Object games *and* the STrategy Guide! Yep, the really tricky games like Ravenhurst and Return to Ravenhurst have Strategy Guides that will help you out when you get stuck. I've been a member 2 or 3 years now and their games are always safe. Every weekend I download the trial for games that have published in the last week. It's a wonderful feature that allows you to play free for an hour and decide whether the game is one you'd enjoy. I find that many of them are pretty darned lame and glad I didn't waste my $$ on them. And then there are the ones created in another country, where the storyline and clues are not written by someone whose English is a first language. LOL. Those can be entertaining just deciphering what the meaning is. (A peg turned out to be a clothespin). Oh, and BigFish has forums too ... where users can go to discuss a particular game and get assistance.

Seil - when I use the flash..it always makes everything look white...so if the flash pops up, I cover it with my hand. Maybe it's because the camera is too close to the bloom?? Merlena - thanks so much for trying again and again!!! Your pictures are wonderful!!! Your MEC and Royal Amethyst are my favorites...incredible!!! Neil Diamond is a big WOW!!!
