Flycatchers are back & playing games again!

Last year we had a pair of Great Crested Flycatchers nest in our yard and were lucky enough to see them rear 3 babies.

Well -- they're back and the nest this year seems even messier than last. There's a hunk of fur (looks like it's been ripped off a carcass (ewww) ) -- lots of feathers and a large amount of snake skin -- in fact Mama brought almost an entire skin to the box, took what she needed and left the rest on the ground!

It seems just like last year they're playing with us and just when we think the nest is finished and it's time to start laying - they disappear!!! Hopefully it's just something 'they do' and they'll be back soon. Mama Blue laid her 4th egg (2nd clutch) today -- we were hoping she and Mama "Fly" would be laying about the same time but I guess not, and so long as they're all ok it doesn't really matter.

So... I will keep those of you interested in the antics of our Flycatchers posted... hopefully we'll have more news soon.

(Not able to get a good pic of the nest yet and as we're leaving it alone for a while to make sure we don't spook them we won't be taking any soon but when (if) we get some good ones, we'll post them.)

Thanks Bridget I remember you from last year. Please do post the pics and give us the scoop. I really enjoyed hearing about them. I learned a lot.

Well -- not much happening. Have hardly seen or heard our Flycatchers but last night one paid a visit to the fence near the bird house. Didn't appear to go in. Saw only one again this morning -- 2 x (or two different birds at two different times???) -- it didn't appear to go in -- just sat there calling and calling, but they're sneaky so who knows. May have to try the piece of grass across the entrance trick...
We heard a couple calling to each other across the trees but we just keep seeing one on its own -- hope that something hasn't happened to one of the 'pair'.

Meanwhile ----- back at the Bluebird Ranch, Mama blue is incubating her 2nd clutch of 4.... with "baby girl" from clutch 1 looking on....

What do you mean? All the words on the collage used at least once? OK let me see if I can clarify the mistery: I made a collage with 25 pictures. Each picture has a name on what you see in the picture. YOUR job is to find the right word to each picture. You only have to write a word ONCE!! Then next time you post, you can use totally new words. Your goal is to get as many words matching the collage words as possible by the 18th. I keep track of the correctly guessed words of each one of you. Tonight I will tally up the scores after everone has posted...speack midnight lol. Just not sure how often you all wanna here the scores??? I do not want to discourage the players that did not guess a lot yet ;-) But like MJ when she guessed on the Frosty, she got a lot of other words just by guessing in that direction ...hint hint hahaha I will be back later Just to make sure nobody has any questions and FUN FUN FUN ...under the sun or snow or rain? Dorothy...I was out shopping tonight, but not for Christmas gifts!!! I needed potting soil for my brugs....the roots are wanting soil! It is hard to find soil this time of year. *************************WE HAVE A WINNER OF ALEINA & BRINDEI'S BIRTHDAYS!!! AMELIA!!! Congratulations!!!! The birthdays are March 9, 10. Aleina was born in 1992 and Brindei in 2004. My two heart dogs only born one day apart. Thank you all for playing! You did a great job learning about Afghan Hounds. Maybe next year when my brug cuttings flower and grow we can do a game with them. I hope I will know much more about them by then. Update.... Stepson playing games again!

Thanks for your reply Dana! Things are looking up since I last posted. My husband brought home boxes for his son to start packing, which he has started doing. I did a little investigating of my own. I checked the apartments website and found that there were apartments available for 6/8, which is where he probably got the date from. The other day when stepson left for work, I checked his room and found the filled out application, and 2 check receipts for checks written out to the apartment complex. I hated to snoop, but felt I had a right to know what was going on considering his track record. It looks like he is moving out on 6/8. He asked if my husband would be available to help him that day since my husband has a pickup truck. He also asked his older brother and a friend to help him. His brother confirmed that to my husband. Things are looking good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
