Crazy Robin

This Robin decided to attack the bedroom window this morning,kept it up for about half an hour before she finally gave up. I know I have read many of you that have had birds attack windows but I have never had this happen before today. So odd to watch.....

sorry for the dirty windows.....

Your windows look a lot cleaner than mine! I refuse to wash them any more ....my excuse is bird strikes! I only wash the insides.

Hi Pat, good to hear from your. That is so great you got to meet Janice. I am jealous and wish I could have been there. I hope you both took lots and lots of pictures. What a dream trip. I haven't forgotten about posting some pictures soon. On some level my brain is trying to organize it for when I get a longer time at the computer. Today is is raining (first time in ages) so I thought I'd do a quick one with the birds. I see I left one extra picture in there - oh well... We were quite content with the reslults that they all flew away and got a chance to live. My hubby was especially quite taken with them. Brody is just fine though often in trouble for wandering down to the neighbors. They have a Pyrneese (? sp) and the two dogs are best buddies. The trouble is we don't trust Brody in case Saber is shut up. He has gone as far as the Trans Canada hwy. once or twice. It's a mile away but Brody like action and I'm afraid we are pretty boring. A few weeks ago Brody was let out at night after dark. This is usually safe as I don't think he sees that well and never goes far. That night he didn't come back until 3:30 in the AM. I found out he was attending a garden wedding of some other neighbors. Everyone loved him.

Well, I consulted the Holy Internet, and it said that sometimes birds take away egg shells to deter predetars. If the egg was a dud and the shell was left over, maybe she was carrying half an eggshell, therefore she could carry it eaiser. Don't thnk she could carry a whole egg in her beak. What do you think Catherinet? :) Arum

The issue is that birds see their reflection and assume it's another male, so they attack their reflection. Robins are probably not the brightest birds, so they keep attacking the window. Actually, very few animals can pass the self-image test where an animal seems the reflection and recognize it as themselves. So far, only humans, apes, elephants, dolphins, and some crows have past the test.

If this continues, turn on a light on the other side, which makes the reflection go away.

Well this crazy bird continues to attack the window, three days now. Woke my daughter up two mornings in a row. Didn't stop even with the light on. Hopefully once she starts nesting she will give this up, otherwise we will have to cover the window up.

what worked best for me was a desk lamp with a hood on it that i could focus a beam of light on the window. i would turn it on when the bird started and usually that would startle it.
