unbelievable! After all I do for you!

I guess it's a good thing, but after all the special work and food I buy and make the female bluebird is eating STORE BOUGHT "peanut Nuggets"!!! I saw her taking them to the babies too! And here I did all this work to make a safe feeder.. oh well! at least the babies are getting fed.

I "adjusted" my window feeder again because that slick mockingbird was able to pull the dish to him and eat!! Clever bird! Now the holes are higher and both the blues are having trouble getting out.. SIGH!! Maybe I'll make a perch inside so they can get out better. Or maybe they will just need to adjust.. I could probably dremel the holes a bit and still keep out the mockingbirds..

I get them at home depot for about $4 a bag.. I'm actually using it to lure the HOSP to it. Then my son is shooting them a BB gun. He's only gotten one so far. The starlings will probably be another target too.

LOL!!!! Just like our kids they don't appreciate us. Kenn's birds also eat the nuggets and many of us are very jealous about that. Nobody would eat the things at this house. Not even the rat birds!!! They got moldy and rotted. If you put a stick inside the feeder you have a place for good photos too.

Yes, I'm not really mad.. but your are right, just like kids! Make gourmet and they eat mcD's!!

It is nice the moma will eat something locally bought, and if she feeds them to the babies, then they'll eat them too. I saw the dad eyeing them up. He wasn't too interested in suet, but ate when he was hungry and stressed from baby duty.

Do you think attaching a stick to this feeder would help the babies? I have an area for perching.. or would the stick help them still? I could remove it after they fly better.

do you think the stick should extend perpendicular to the window ( that'll look great! NOT!) or would attaching it across the perch area horizontal to the window be ok?

there is a sreen across the top ofthe bottom piece so it's a level surface. to the feeder box.

Denninmi...I'm in the same place. I've got 4 trees in pots now, with no idea where they will eventually go. (one is an apple, as a matter of fact). (before you think I'm not even close, realize I've got 30+ figs in pots ranging from 2 gal up to 25 gal as well...not to mention the passionflowers and bamboos). I do have an autumn olive that I will likely remove, but its placement makes doing so a huge undertaking and I would have to do more than just cut it at ground level because I would want the planting space. I've not had much success grafting either. I had two that looked quite promising a couple years ago. They were too interesting looking to the squirrels or possums or something though as they were victims of something. After that I gave up. (I'll likely try again sooner or later though ~Chills oh, yeah...btw...the persimmon is leafing out well. The tops of the leaders were looking like they were dead, but slowly they are pushing their buds as well. Maybe I'll get fruit this year...time will tell

I agree with dlenart. I did this last year and had excellent results and I didn't need to spend any money for a top dressing. I used a power rake set at the deepest setting, (which helped level out some bumps I had as well). I raked everything up, slit seeded and then covered with the old grass. This was a lot of work, but I had better results as the year before I just mowed it down as low as possible and left it. As a side note, I still had a pile of grass that composted and I'm growing pumpkins in it for my daughter and they are growing out of control!

Yes Ann.....Our mail system seems to be faster than ever. Oh I will use it Ann, but I hate to, because I'm scared of ruining it, but I will use it, thats for sure. I sure like the way the grains run through the wood. I will be making a cheese ball to put on it first. I think a nice Cheese Ball will compliment it nicely.( Thanks for the idea Dixiedog) You really didn't have to do that Ann, but I just love it, and I shall look after it well.Thank you once again !!!
