Wow, we have baby Blues already....

I did my every other day nestcheck of the nestboxes at the park near us, expecting to find all eggs yet. I had thought due to my calculations that one clutch of eggs would hatch on Saturday but to my suprise when I opened that nestbox there was a jumble of babies! I was so suprised that I didn't take a head count but I know there were at least four. There were five eggs. I will check better on Saturday. She laid her last egg on 5/9 and on 5/20 there were eggs yet, I do afternoon checking on these nestboxes. Day 14 would have been today and I didn't check the nestboxes on the 21st. I am assuming they hatched yesterday, day 13.

My other nest down there had the fifth egg laid on the 14th so I am guessing they would be hatching on the 28th but I guess it could be sooner too.

The Blues that I have seen at the house here visit the nestbox for awhile every morning (today included) both of them going in and out and then they disappear for the rest of the day. Last evening I saw a wren land on the box and go inside, oh what a sick feeling. I ran out of the house like a mad woman and chased that darn little thing away. I have a wren guard ready for when and if this pair nests so hopefully the wren won't be a problem since he/she knows the house is there already.

Oh and the neighbors Purple Martins have finally returned. Gosh they took awhile. I had seen a lone male over there for about a week now but no others until today.
