What a great picture! No redpolls here this year either. If you think about it though, the irruptive birds are at your feeders because they WERE starving in their normal wintering areas (assuming they don't usually winter in your area).

Any redpolls or pine siskins that fly to my location probably spent a long panicky time looking for food and are stocking up while they can.

If I did my plants at the end of a hectic day, I might just end up yanking all the leaves - gimme some bread dough to work and everything will be fine though, or a quick 10km run... Both is usually best :-) (angry? Make bread. seasonal depression? Just bake some christmas cookies - I have to run to keep up with the baking...) If I had kids, they'd bug me on purpose, as it is, the dog makes sure I supply him with plenty of peanut butter & liver cookies :-) ooh the drama when we run out... I find taking care of my plants is a great start to the day - they are so much less demanding than people (I am so not a morning person). K.

Brugs just seem to have stopped growing :(

Mine weren't doing too much as far as growing, but I started spraying the leaves with some Superthrive diluted in water. Man- in 2 days the leaves grew darker and started to reach towards the sky. They grew rapidly, and now most of my brugs are blooming. I spray them every week. We're in zone 7, it's been hot here- in the 90's during the day and in the 60's at night. Cooler temps trigger blooms too. I water every day. Deep watering is best. best wishes for blooms to come!

"Persistent animations may be related to psychoactive consumables...especially if no one else is seeing them. :-o " Psychoactive Consumables, you mean virtual pot? Maybe it sounds as if you are suggesting a psychosis happening here, that I may be the only one who gets them... Hmmm conspiracy! Even if you don't believe in it doesn't mean that they are not out to get you. I refer to the ads that want to grab your attention using movement. For those with the dyslexic attribute, they are so distracting that the web page is rendered useless. I have to move that section of the page to be off the side of the monitor. It would be nice to have a switch to kill all animations. "Ying tong yiddle I po" Have you looked it up? (: Think Groucho Marx....

Debra, I love the luna moths as well. This one was fully 6 inches across. And those antennae look like palm fronds! And, Sherry, I think these moths are southeast creatures-I'll have to check that. Lori, my lantana usually does well but not the monster it has become this year. Mantis, I found an earlier photo of Pistachio Eyes that shows more of the green eyes. I don't know why it is an unknown. I grow many Stamiles because they perform well for me and of those, Down Home, Pistachio Eyes and Song Writer look great. But above these, Silent Musings is a fabulous huge pink (I know some are not pink fans so don't read any more!) that has always amazed me that it is not in more gardens. I will post it as well although it has been hard to capture its "presence" in the garden. Pistachio Eyes with more of the green eyes showing. Silent Musings-usually 7 plus inches-full and flat

Now that looks like a great idea. Sure would keep filled up longer than those little feeders.Do you put the perches all the way thru ? If not I was wondering if chopsticks would work.

I love the Redpolls. I've only seen them once in the 30 years I've lived here. Great picture. Also, Konrad, what a great homemade feeder. You are very clever.
