what is this bird?

this is a photo of a bird ive never seen in my area before that i spotted in my back garden. it is a light coffee colour with red flecks under the wing and a spiky kinda crest on its head. sorry that the photo is bad, i had to put my camera in front of my binoculars to take te photo but i forgot to turn the flash off so when i took it all the birds flew away( there were 4 of them).

It almost sounds like a female Cardinal...what color was the beak?

Cicked on your "my page" and saw that you are in the UK...I don't think you have cardinals in the UK...can you try again to post a photo?

They are nature's garbage men! I live near a park with mature trees that is sandwiched at the intersection of two busy roads. The turkey vultures settle in on a garage roof across from the park a block from the intersection and just have a buffet! They are magnificent.

Just saw one on the ground tonight. These birds only showed up around here several years ago, but lots of them are here all the time now.........drinking their tea. :)

Looks like a domestic pigeon that probably escaped from its owner or didn't find it's way home. Head structure doesn't look like a Homing pigeon.

I took a ramble through the Collins guide looking for crested birds-they're not all that thick on the ground, but Waxwing seems like a possibility for your bird.
