cutest 'Doo doo? Doo doo.' bird call - but what kind of bird!?

in maine last week there was this yellowish grey little bird (from what we could see, he was at the very very top of a tall pine) talking to my dad all day as he worked outside on our house.

the bird would repeat himself over and over, saying "Doo doo? Doo doo." it sounded as if he were asking a question, but then he would immediately reassure himself with a response. the first "doo doo" is a higher pitch then the second "doo dooo" which is what it sounds like a question and reply.

does any one know what kind of bird this could be? my dad and i got such a kick out of him, that we now have this inside joke where we imitate the bird at random times.

Doo doo? Doo doo.

ya know, he kind of looked like one, but the call just isnt the same =/

unless it was an uncommon sound for them to make, like an alert or something? but otherwise, no match. thank you though!!

Kirk, I was digging out birdfdrs & stuff for Spring...& guess what! I said above that I envied your blue hummingbird fdr...& in Sept '10, we vacationed in MN & DH had me choose one for my b'day...so I have a blue etched glass bottle hummingbird fdr...will be hanging it out in the arbor in a couple wks so I'll post a pic. We had a serious problem with crows and the starlings that come with them (sort of like little jackels following their larger black buddies). They would wipe out all our fruit trees by only taking one peck out of each, then tearing off new growth. We tried everything for years (owl dummies, old CDs hanging, bird netting the smaller trees). Nothing worked. Then three years ago we bought some outdoor speakers, ran the wire to our house where we hooked up a MP3 selection (on our computer) of various song birds and various hawk sound bytes and play it early in the morning and occasionally during the day when those black winged gangsters start their fly by. We have never lost any fruit since playing those bird songs and osprey/hawk calls. The good thing is the neighbours don't complain about it as it sounds like a garden full of song birds most of the time. Seems that crows and especially starlings do not like to come around where there is a large active bird population. This year we sacrificed our small orchard to see if NOT playing the sounds had any change. Needless to say, we lost all our cherries, plums, crab apples and much of our new growth on most of our trees. So playing bird sounds really works for us at least. A much more natural and safer alternative to gun warfare.

I have been living in my house for over thirty years we have a yard that is separated by a fence that divides my property which is small and a neighbors we are right on top of each other I raised two children here with no problems because I was considerate to my close neighbors about 8 years ago a family with 4 young kids moves in they put there four piece swing set up against the property line don’t get me wrong I like kids but there noise over welms us in our back yard we’re sitting ducks there is no level of common sense common curtesy toward us it’s all about them there big family I’ve put a lot of money in my home can’t even enjoy my outdoor space I don’t care if there children play but when there’s four and play dates its really bad we live in New York pay a lot of money to live here just got a two thousand dollar increase in taxes I’m going to seek advice from an attorney because they took my quality of life here from my home I’m sorry kids will be kids but it is there parents job to keep them under control my children were my responsibility you can not treat close neighbors like that I’m sick I feel I lost my outdoor space I hope this can be resolved some people would agree or disagree with this but I had young children on a sat or Sunday I could of put them out at 8:00 in the morning I did not they are in back of me they had two young children out on a Sat at 8:15 in the morning woke me up didn’t care dad called me a crazy lady so I let him have it good solved that problem but because young children get up early does that mean we all due we work during the week sometimes we like to sleep in these people are discussing no regard for no one

no mosaicing in that room at all... there are a few pieces, already done in there but that's the designated studio for only the porcelain painting. bedroom next to it, it to be the craft/mosaic/glass room. right now, it's holding mosaic supplies in the black plastic milk crates but the excess of all else, is housing it. then, there's the stained glass in boxes in there..so, I have a large project to do, before I can put a work table in it..it's on the same wall as the painting room, so I get the same brightness in that room, too. I'm working on it, so hopefully will have it cleared out...again...soon.

I've been trying to identify birds by song and it's very frustrating. It must take years of experience.

A tufted titmouse's alert is more of an almost electrical-sounding high pitched "buzz buzz buzz." It hardly even sounds like a bird. I have no idea what your doo doo is, but living in TN, I have been fooled many times by mockingbirds!

I've been listening for your little bird in my bird cd's. Hopefully I'll come across one that fits.

Thanks for your replies! It's been kind of fun trying to research and figure out my Mystery Bird, especially since it's just for fun and not anything school related(haha!)

the goldfinch call is VERY close!! that particular example isnt EXACTLY what we heard that day, but close enough to say that i'm pretty sure it could have been a FEMALE GOLDFINCH! we didnt recognize her as a goldfinch with the binoculars since the females are dont have the vibrant color, but I just googled a a picture of female and i think we have a match!

Thank you oldned, i never would have looked at a goldfinch, since i wouldnt have recognized a female!

It's lovely. But if you can't, it doesn't matter. ''So anything to do with lifestyle -- clothes, food, louboutin shoes , hats, bags or pens. Things that make you feel good.
