Live mealworms

I'm becoming concerned about the dramatic drop in pollinators that is being documented in recent years. This decrease could mean a drop in insects available for our birds to feed their young. So, I am now growing mealworms as a food source for my back yard birds. I put some out yesterday on a new platform feeder and had two White Breasted Nuthatches and a Downy Woodpecker gobble them up. A larger woodpecker took a close look, but didn't take the plunge.

My colony is just getting started, so I don't know how long I can keep feeding without running out. I have containers with probably thousands of eggs, but they need to hatch and grow up. I'm hoping they'll be big enough for feeding by nesting time.

Does anyone else feed live mealworms? I hear bluebirds love them.
