Wow! Y'all will never guess what happened in my yard today...

I actually had to water some plants! I had a couple of plants starting to wilt from the heat and [gasp!] lack of rain.

I guess I'll have to start watching them. It's been so long since I had to think about it, I've almost forgotten how to water.

Ditto! You should have seen my pentas, they were unrecognizable. The guilt factor kicked in and I watered. I'm thinking it's like washing your car though, tomorrow we'll get unexpected record rain. Again.

I plan to water some of my plants today...the same plants I thought were going to drown a week ago.

Hi kathy, sorry for my delay in my response, I have been so over whelmed with excitement with all the stuff I've received I told my wife I don't know where to start or finish. She told me just start at one corner and go around the yard. Lol.. I am really excited tho I've gone to H/D to get soil,.perlite and now I can start filling pots and making more cacti & succulent projects :) Kathy so this greyish colored plant, is it easily propagated by cuttings the and what are the watering trixs? & does it like full sun or bright light? And thank you for your experience too, its much appreciated. Rosemarie, thanks again as always, your help with the plants names is invaluable. This last picture is a nice wheel barrel pot carrier that also was part of the load, of can't wait to get all settled in there is just so many pots and other goodies I haven't even posted half of um. It may be too late to do anything about the year old glasses, but before you give up, contact your state consumer affairs board AND the board in your state that licenses opticians (assuming your state does, not all states have that requirement) and see if you have any recourse. As to getting reliable cheap glasses? DD is an optician. She's worked in a dept. store, in a discount chain and now works in a dr's office. There's a WORLD of difference in the quality, according to her. You DO get what you pay for. Discount chains use very inexpensive (read easily broken) frames, many use lenses that are manufactured in 3rd world countries that are of questionable quality at best and often the workmanship is also sub-par. However, I do have a suggestion for you. IF your state licenses opticians, find out where they train (a community college, perhaps) and see if they have a dispensary. I always got to the college for my glasses. Where I go, they sell high end frames, brand name lenses--at cost! The point of the dispensary is to give the students practice writing up orders and fitting the glasses when they're done. The professor checks everything and makes the glasses up herself. Last go-round? I got a pair of progressive regular glasses with the highest priced glare coating, a pair of progressive sunglasses, my husband got a pair of progressives and our bill was $450. Oh, they all were designer frames (not that I care, but they were). DD said my 'regular' glasses, in her shop, with the family discount would have cost $800 alone! Often, too, colleges have the very latest in lab equipment, because the manufacturers donate those gizmos for free, so that the students will 'learn to love them' so to speak.

I suppose it is an upgrade but that's just a guess....since the situation is progressing in a to a higher level. I hate to hear y'all have progressed to severe. That is not a good sign, particularly in what is normally the wet season. With gardeners, we tend to think of the upper few inches of the soil where we are trying to work the soil, weed, plant, etc. Drought monitoring involves moisture at deeper levels. That's why we gardeners can feel like our gardens are incredibly muddy while the U. S. Drought Monitor shows we are abnormally dry or in one of the drought stages. Your soil type matters too. Our mesonet station has a very different type of soil than what we have, so I have to take those soil moisture measurements with a grain of salt because mine are likely very different from theirs. I tried going shopping and it wasn't fun. I wasn't in the mood to shop for clothes or shoes or anything. It was foggy and misty and icky and chilly so shopping for plants outdoors (I didn't buy any) wasn't fun either. We went to the feed store and bought hen scratch and some sunflower seeds for the cardinals and then stopped at the gas station and at Wal-Mart where we picked up some items to repair the lawnmower's flat tire. That is the extent of our exciting shopping trip. When I cannot be outside working in the lawn and garden in spring, it drives me crazy---but not crazy enough to be out there in the mud and puddles and today's weather. It feels like March today. Maybe that is to make up for some of those March or early April days when it felt like late May.

You are training them well! Your comment about the hampers is correct. I end up having to collect clothes from their rooms. My 15yo daughter is the worst. I have to avoid her room if I don't want to ruin my day, and her clothes are the deplorable. The underwear, the deodorant stains, and she is the brute on the soccer fields, her uniforms are always stained up. She is a lost cause for now. I can just see your little guy sorting his clothes. ..I think I still have some time with my boys to get a few lessons in, after I learn them myself. I have been washing my clothes since I was 12, but I never learned how to properly do laundry, even in Home Ec.

Same here for potted plants. I am with you, I almost forgot we're supposed to water. I also think it was from the heat. We have had such a cool summer the poor things haven't had time to get accustom to it....me neither.

Yep, I had to water Crotons yesterday. And we were finally able to mow the back yard.

Well, here in North Texas, I have been watering for a couple of weeks. Believe me, it takes only a short time for the sun and wind to draw all that top moisture off. I have been grateful for the little showers to pop up, unlike the heavier rains a lot of North Texans are getting.

It has been so nice not to have to water every week, I've only used my soaker hose a few times this year and have hand watered the rest.
We've had some nice rain the past few days and my plants were needing the rain.
I've lost some plants from to much rain earlier in the summer and some have suffered from lack of sunshine not blooming or not growing at all.

We are getting a nice thunderstorm here this morning and I am happy about it! Yesterday a .5 inch rain kept me from hose duty and today's drench will carry my babies through to next week ;-)

This has certainly been a weird Texas summer, hasn't it? I had to water my lawn on Tuesday which, of course, meant that I would get 2" of rain at my house on Wednesday! :-) But I am definitely not complaining.
