Can only speak from experience with northern moist prairies and meadows, but the native sedges that might be weedy in lawns don't seem to be dominant under natural conditions. For example Cyperus strigosus is sometimes abundant in moist disturbed areas but I don't see it as often in less ruderal habitats. Each species is unique though so it may be a matter of letting things go and see how it turns out.

Hello I'm trying to add more greenery to our slope and would like an opinion on what would be a good option for it. We are in SoCal close to beach. I was thinking red creeping fescue or sand dune sedge? Thank you

Thanks Nan. I've written it down (I'm presuming that Basagran is the brand name) and will be looking it up. I used Ortho Sedge killer that came in a spray bottle for my small job around the daylily just so everyone knows what product I used that caused the spotting on the daylily leaves. I've used it around other plants, but no damage done to anything else except the Sedge. Both Sedge and Daylilies are monocots obviously, but what else they have in common that would react to the Sedge killer escapes my botanical knowledge. Nut Sedge is bulbus, Daylilies are not.............Maryl

Doesn't look like one. Can you post a clearer picture of the flower when it is more developed? Is it anywhere near a bird feeder?
