tomatotomata

I've had 4 toms in containers and 1 out in the middle of the yard this year, and I've had really poor results. Looking back, I think I overwatered and under-fertilized. I can't bear to tear them out; the Brandywine and Better Boy are just starting to ripen a few smallish fruit, and the Sungold gives me a few each day. Only the Cherokee Purple looks fairly healthy and is producing well. (My first heirloom, and a pleasant surprise!)

So I pulled up the sickly one in the yard and planted a Stupice. I chose that variety solely because it will produce early. Hope it tastes good. I vow to CHECK before I water!

Next year, if I'm still stuck with container gardening, I'm going to invest the time & money to put together a good, well draining planting mix.

Ah, next year...
