I don't know the answer to your question Carol, but I saw them for sale here in Granbury today. They were on sale 1/2 price......still too rich for my blood at $35.00!!!

I bought one this spring at Shoal Creek Nursery here in Austin -- it was $6.99. There was a woman "ahead" of me at the vine area who had FOUR of them on her cart. I scooped up the last one and followed her a bit to see if she changed her mind about wanting all three of them. :-)

It has only had one or two blooms so far, but they were stunning. I hope it does winter over.

Carol, this place can be kind of high, but they do have some good things on sale. I got the 3 porterweed there in gallon pots for $10.00. These passion vines were extremely nice too. They were in 5 gallon containers and had about 4 foot tall trellises with them. All of them had completely covered the trellises to where you couldn't hardly see them. That being said......LOL, I'm still too cheap to spend that much on a plant unless it's a shrub or tree :).

I'm a bargain hunter too! We'll have to go nursery hopping this fall when the perennials go on major discount :). The farmer's market in Weatherford is great for that.

That does sound like a nice passion vine. Sometimes the big plants are more but they make an instant show if you can afford them.

I've been wanting to go to the Weatherford Mkt. for a long time. I'd love to go there with you.
Maybe we could go when they have the flea mkt. open too.

Sounds like a group outing in the making :). The flea market is every first Monday of the month. If you want to go soon, the next one is the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of August. the one after that will be August 31, Sept 1st and 2nd. Maybe a visit to Chandor Gardens in Weatherford as well?

does this passion vine need anything out of the ordinary? I ask because I was given a plant this spring for a red, told it was not winter hardy here but she hasn't bloomed!

She's on the same tower my foetida has been blooming her heart out on, and they started the same size.

I don't know if this is the one I have, but was hoping she wants just something more than what I've been giving her

Kristi, maybe we should try and make it Sept. or Oct. that way we could do our fall plant shopping and Bev should be back in town by then too.

Cynthia, I have two and they've bloomed fairly regular. I dug a bigger then normal hole for them and put a mixture of compost and potting mix that contains some plant food in with the plant.
I bought Jolana one and another club member one and theirs have done lots better then mine. Jolana waters hers with pond water so I think this is why hers grew so big fast.

i have one of those but i didn't know the name of it i got mine a produce stand here in east tx. i left it in the 5 gallon pot and just buried the pot and plan to cut it baack and bring it into the small greenhouse i have for the winter.
it seems to grow more the hotter it gets. the butterflies and hummers really like it.

Yesterday my DH weed wacked part of my passi vine so what do you think is the best way to propagate the cutting?

BTW, DH is in fair condition and should recover nicely.

I live close to Nacogdoches...south and east of Tyler...and they will not live through the winter here. They are extremely hard to root. I did over 100 cuttings every way imaginable...water, potting soil, hard wood, soft wood, and got 2 plants...from the potting soil during winter in the greenhouse. They will NOT bloom if you give them too much nitrogen...they will just make leaves. I put mine in the greenhouse the first year but left it in the ground the second year thinking maybe it had made runners and would come back but no such luck. It was really pretty but too much trouble for me! Likes full sun but shaded roots and lots of water. She bloomed better in the fall and on into November...just a few blooms along until it began to cool down. Have photos but have forgotten how to post them. Good luck, Mary

My passion vine is about 6 years old and comes back every year. I'm in Tyler. Mine has grown the length of my driveway, and it's a long driveway. Its grown underground and come up on a tree and has covered the tree. Today I probably have 75 blooms. I love mine as do the butterflies and hummingbirds. We've never done anything special to keep it over the winter. I have never been able to propagate it. I bought my friend one Sat. at Blue Moon in Edom for $9. Mine blooms constantly.

Well, I have LM Passi cutting sitting in a rain barrel. Maybe that will work! LOL! PJ

Cynthia, I have some cuttings and when PJ came over I sent her home to try some too. Maybe between the two of us we can make some LM passis root.

I think the one I have planted in the courtyard should over winter best. I'm sure going to try and keep them.
