Got one in my rose tree. Hafta be careful when pruning this time of year, to wait until after the nest clears, if there's one in the way.

Have one in my live oak, that I gotta wait on, also.

OOOO...OOOO...OOOO, I looked in the tree again... I have been trying to spy on them with my binocs and I think I saw cardinals!!! And..... I looked up pictures of Cardinal eggs on-line and they look just like these!!! COOL!

You do know that English house sparrows are not a protected species, huh? You just don't want to get caught trying to shoot them with your bb gun in city limits. hee-hee!

That is great that you have a pair of cardinals that have nested in your bushes. One year we had a pair of robins nest on top of the electric meter on the east side of my parents house. We rarely went over there and one day I walked over there and startled them. They were fledgling size and decided at that moment they should all hop out of their next. The parents had a fit and tried to chase me away! Of course, there is also the time when our lab picked up a baby blue jay fledgling and my dad had him drop it - didn't harm it at all. When my dad returned it to the yard, the parents hit him so hard on top of his head, they took a piece of skin and made him bleed. Baby birds are so much fun!

yep... cardinals for sure. I have only been peeping at them through my binocs since the day I found them. I want them to hatch, not have mama leave them cuz of me!! But, WOW what do they do when there is CRAZY wind and rain (like I am having right now!!!!!!!)???

How awesome! We had barn swallows at our old house - what a messy pain, even if they were fun to watch. Cardinals are much better.

How neat! I once had a cardinal on a nest, but by that time it was so hot I think the eggs got hard boiled.

I think they hunker down & fluff up their feathers & keep the eggs or babies protected unless the weather is so bad, like a tornado, that they're absolutely forced to abandon the nest.

There was some bad weather the summer that cardinals nested in a rose bush here, & the birds raised their family despite rain & wind.

I went out today and sure 'nuf... there she was, fluffed up and sitting on those babies! I can't believe that nest is so strong... you should have seen that tree a blowin'! Now I won't worry so much!

Aww! We just had baby Mockingbirds leave the nest 2 days ago. We loved sneaking a peek every now and then after they hatched and were amazed by how quickly they grew.

Thanks for the picture - my kids went wild over it! We have a family of starlings in a hole in a fruitless mulberry in the backyard. I hammered some boards up the trunk so my son could get up there and keep an eye on things. He can't reach the hole to mess with them, but he loves sitting right by it and watching the mama bird bringing cicadas and june bugs to her babies.
