I found my 'vanities'; but will I be able to get them? (pics)

I found the furniture that I want for my vanities for my master bath, but I'm not sure I can actually get them.

After looking off and on for the last two years - I've been planning my remodel for a long time - I stumbled upon the perfect piece of furniture in a store in Supply NC while visiting there for the weekend. The piece is a night stand, by Royal Patina, and it is the exact look I wanted AND it was the perfect size. Up till now everything that I found that I liked the look of was the wrong size. What I want for my master bath is two small chests, and they need to be 30" to 35" wide, by 19" to 22" deep, by 30" to 33" high. This piece is 34w x 19d x 32h and I love it.

Unfortunately they were only selling it as part of a bedroom set and also said they couldn't order it for me for some reason.

I looked up the furniture makers on the internet, and found they don't sell it directly (I didn't really think they would). I found one Furniture Store that does sell it and I sent in a request this morning for them to contact me. Their site says they will contact people within 24 to 48 hours after the request is sent, so hopefully they'll contact me by tomorrow evening.

I really want this piece of furniture. DH and I will then each have our own vanity with a small space between them. I plan on putting an old fashioned looking washbowl style vessel sink (I saw some great ones on line) on top and custom fitting the top drawer to accommodate the plumbing. I'll put the faucets on the wall above the sink. Since DH and I are doing this project (which I hope to finally begin in January) the extra plumbing work isn't a big deal. If I had to pay a plumber I bet they'd charge a premium price for the extra work.

Anyway, please wish me luck on actually acquiring the furniture!

Oh yeah, I will leave the wood top and give it several extra coats of a matte finish polyurethane.

Maybe this is not an issue for you- but aren't they a bit low? If you are putting a 'vessel' on top, then I guess it would be high enough. I just envision somebody bending far, far over to brush teeth!

seth, bananas do not set fruit in a pot, as a general rule of thumb. if they have in the past, consider yourself lucky! in your area, they are generally used as an ornamental. i hope someone has a better answear for ya.

Hi yellowthumb... I have a few questions.. How do you make your gritty mix? What amounts of what? And, how big are the pots you are using your gritty mix in? Also what is the proceedure you use to repot your plants out of the old soil? What do you do with the roots? I don't have any problems planting into the mixes anymore, especially the gritty one after trial and error and the loss of a few plants. I use to have the same problem as you. I would be willing to help you succeed and avoid this. We can do it here, or in private. mikerno_1@yahoo.com I would say ALL but a couple of my larger plants are in the gritty mix. I put a couple of plants in bigger pots in the 5.1.1 mix because I ran out of the gritty ingrediants. I also love the 5.1.1 mix.Both drain well and encourage great root growth. Also a much less chance of over watering, for someone like me.. All my small potted plants are in the 5.1.1 mix, except oh, I would say 15 plumerias. They can be ignored or days wihtout watering, and yet do well. They can even be watered everyday, such as from the rain I have had since the start of June, and still do well in the gritty mix. No rot. I would say it is a personal choice. Both mixes are awsome! Just easier for me to use the 5.1.1 mix in smaller pots. The gritty mix will last alot longer than the 5.1.1 for plants intended to stay in the same pot for a LONG period of time. Thanks for your kindness and noticing that I have come along way. I do owe it to myself for all my hard work, but I owe it most of all to the ones that showed me the way.. You do though have to know how to repot into the new mixes and I would love to help you out... If you can get the gritty mix under your belt, you will defiantely like this one better.... Fabulous color. I have two that are similar in my house -- EK Mustard Seed and C2 Radiate. They are happy, happy colors. Just right for that happy, happy baby! And good for you for figuring out that you can't necessarily pick colors by looking at other people's photos. It's a great place to start....but it just isn't that simple, as you well know.

modar - I painted my dining room in my last home dark burgundy! Deep, dark red, not purple-ish. My DH thought I was nuts, be he did his best to keep his mouth shut, and he ended up loving it! It was a small room, and I think the color warmed up the space and made it feel cozy and rich at the same time. We got lots of compliments. I chose Georgian Brick for this house because I was trying to coordinate with my brick fireplace and brick floors in another room. I love the color! Good luck with your choices, bloomin...

I see why you like it/them, but if they aren't available, they aren't available.

Have you been checking on ebay or craig's list, or have you checked your local used furniture shops? If they didn't have to match, you'd have lots of options.

Just thinking out loud [so to speak], but:

I'm normally a symetriholic, but if they aren't going to connect via a mathching center object, it might be cool to use 2 different, antique pieces: a curvey, bombe shape for her, a straight lined, federal or italianate style for him...

You could carry the theme farther with different basins and faucets as well...

There are several matching pairs listed right now as well, some nice ones but none quite like 'yours'. Still, worth checking from time to time.

We have furniture places that can make anything as long as you show them a pic of what you want. See if you can find a local carpenter and you can name your dimensions...

Our place seemed a little expensive, but once you figure that you're not paying shipping and can get exactly what you want, it comes out fairly reasonable....

(Also when I used our local place, I brought them a desk drawer and asked them to match the finish and they did so perfectly!)

I was able to order the two night stands from a place called Basista Furniture from Ohio who also do phone orders and have the furniture shipped anywhere in the country. I found out that the furniture maker (in Highpoint NC) is going out of business and is just selling off what they have left. Fortunately they have a number of the night stands left. It will take 6 to 8 weeks to get them, which is ok; I'm not even beginning the demo till after New Years.

Oruboris - I don't know why I never thought about have different cabinets, but until I read your post the thought that it could be done and look good never crossed my mind. And I'd already ordered them before I read your post. I can see now that that would be a viable alternative, so if something happens and we don't get these pieces, I'll start looking around for antiques.

I am planning on using a vessel sink, one thats about 4 to 5 inches high and looks sort of like an old fashioned wash bowl.

I am sooo excited to begin this remodel. We had planned on doing it last winter but instead had to put $10k into new heating/ac equipment.
