I have some orange hummingbird bushes that are rooting. If the one stem in water is any indication.. the ones in dirt have rooted already!

This Saturday works for me, so long as its not in the late afternoon/eve. (I'm babysitting)

Saturday, June 30, 10 AM or thereabouts, at Starbucks on, uh, whatever they call Beltline in that area just east of Irving Mall.

I'll bring my little plants or plants-to-be, & some Queen's Cap that I forgot I had (fast-growing, full-sun, self-seeding annual vine, heart-shaped leaves, blush pink flowers).

If the group gets too large, we'll change the location to an outdoor spot.

I would to love to meet up BUT I have company coming in this weekend! Any other time, count me in...

We're going to the air show put on at the Addison Airport by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. They're going to have a number of WWII and other antique aircraft flying that day. They have a fabulous museum too. Wish I could meet y'all because I have a couple plants I could bring - some buffalo currant. I'll have to save those for our fall plant exchange.

I want to know more about this Queen's Cap vine... is there another name for it? I can't find any info on it.

Hey, while you guys up there in DFW have a sortie, maybe we in the Austin environs can do the same? Anyone interested?

Melvalena - I was at my mom's in Irving yesterday and she has even more colonial phlox for me to share with you...it does smell sweet. I took the time to go smell this past week after you asked...real soft sweet smell!

The person who gave me the plants said it was Queen's Cap, never had it before, or heard of it before, my own self.

But it's pretty:

It's a sun-loving vine, heart-shaped leaves, brightish green with red veining, & the flowers are sort of like pink vitex-long skinny panicles of tiny flowers.

It was growing like a maniac on a trellis on the hot south side of her brick house.

Would love to get together but not sure if we can this weekend. Lane fell and badly damaged his wrist and is having surgery Monday so we are madly getting things done before he is in a cast.

Coral vine is beautiful, but this ain't it!

This one looks a lot like hyacinth bean vine, only difference I see is the leaves are heart-shaped.

wish I had a photo of the flowers:
they're pale pink, compound, long skinny things like vitex, but each flower is teeny.

Maybe we can do another get-together after the 4th of July.

This one's just a spur-of-the-moment thing, & I'm sure lots of people would like to have coffee & talk "garden" this time of year!

For those in the Austin or other areas:

You might post a message with something like "Austin Area Get-Together?" in the title, so people in the area will be more likely to open the message.

Sylvia, I have a huge trellis that needs aggressive vine on it.
I've been planting various annual seeds there for weeks now, but nothing. Either its too late, the pill bugs are getting the sprouts or its just too dang wet and they're rotting.

One PHV has made it to about 3 inches. So I'll be interested in 2 of your vines if possible. (one for each side of the trellis)

That area gets good sun until about 2pm.

The vine(s) at Mildred's house were gorgeous, on a trellis against her south-facing brick wall; they were already covering the trellis!

I'll be there tomorrow, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, that is.

Then again with all this rain........

I don't have a lot of plants. The plants I have are pretty common, you probably all have them already! I think I have something a little different though. Something to help get those new cuttings growing strong. I'll bring some to share since I don't have a lot of plants right now.

The only thing I can think of that might be a unique cutting to bring would be a white butterfly bush. Anybody want me to bring that also?

What a pleasant way to spend a Saturday mid day!

I got rid of... opps I mean I passed on some of my extra plants and brought back some of what I am needing.

It was great meeting you new gals, and seeing Sylvia again.

Yep.. we need _more_ regular get togethers!

I just now got the cuttings stuck into good potting soil, put everything in the shade & watered well, haven't sprinkled any of the organic fertilizer yet, but will do that tomorrow.

(For something that "wasn't a swap", I brought home a lot of good stuff!)

Ladies, I have to say thank you for all those wicked bueno cool plants. I feel like I hit the jackpot! I know what I am doing today.....I'm glad I came to get a feel for plant swaping, I can't wait for the fall one. I plan to be starting some things so I can be ready.

And thank you for calling me cool Mommyfox! I try to be cool. It works sometimes:-) And I have to say that Julie, you yourself were a really cool cat. And Gail, you got some funny stories gal, can't wait to hear more. And Sylvia, you are a really sweet spirit. Point is, I really warmed to all of you and am glad I got the opportunity to meet you!
