Does this sound like a 'critter' bark wound to you?

I discovered, at about 6 in. off the ground, a triangular section cut from the bark of our Alternate-leaf dogwood tree. I have no idea what a rabbit chewing mark would look like (we have cotton-tails in our area, but I have never seen one in our garden [we have a dog and a leashed cat]).
