More Great Horned Owls

About 6 weeks ago we saw a Great Horned Owl in a nest way up in a Eucalyptus tree behind our house. Eventually we saw the two chicks and over the past few weeks they have gone from pure white down covered babies to just about as large as their mom. They have moved from the tall Eucalyptus tree to a pine tree where they are flying at dusk from tree to tree. One day my husband discovered one of the babes on the ground being harassed by an obnoxious crow. He was inspired to do a sculpture and I've included pics of it here. The soapstone he used turned out to be the same color as the owls once it was oiled. The piece is sitting on a mirror. The best part of the story is that the family of three are eating about 2 or 3 rabbits a day and my garden is now less bothered by the little pests. I won't include the pics of the kill - too gross!
