great horned owl

Cool but sad discovery this morning under a telephone pole along my long driveway. I found the carcass of a great horned owl. Looks on the young side, but I have nothing to compare that to. I noticed its breast feathers seem more buff colored than barred brown like the adults. I'm not sure if that helps anyone with IDing it. The horns are very distinct and size seem typical of a great horned owl. I will try to post a picture later. It is very interesting to be able to examine something like that up close. Because the weather has been fairly cold, it has been preserved fairly well so far. As far as I know, the neighbor saw it there Tuesday so it has been there a couple of days so far.

Does anyone have any speculation on what may have happened to it? I wondered if it is possible for an owl to hit a wire or cable while flying at night. I thought they had pretty good eyesight.
