great horned owl or???

New York state - by the hudson river

last night about 11-12mid night (eastern) I heard what may? have been a great horned owl??

at least the "typical call" from owlpages.com sounds closest to what I heard.

a few other observations (please bear with my less than technical discriptions- it's a bit embarrassing)

- it was a quiet night, and when I first heard it, it sounded almost canine? as it recurred i thought owl, then - i thought it might just be pigeons (i've noticed a bunch that frequent the next house.) and

it reminded me slightly of a mourning dove, except the "notes" seemed all the same - no higher "note" like the m dove.

sorta like this:

0 0 uu 0 0 0 (0=Full beat, u= half beat)

the only pigeon sounds I found were the gutteral coos - and that wasn't a match.

any other possiblities out there?

~thanks for any assistance
