A Horned Owl visited my backyard

Yesterday I caught sight of a great Horned Owl in the treeline across the back of my property. As I watched, she (just a guess) moved from one tree to another and finally to a third. There she sat and, I guess, watched the sparrows, cardinals, and doves at the feeders closer to the house.

I grabbed a pair of binoculars to get a good look. Oh my, what a huge bird. And that face. Amazing. She sat for a couple of hours in that tree until I, in my eagerness to get a photo, scared her away with my big black camera and long lens. Bummer.

As you can guess from my enthusiasm, I've never seen a Great Horned Owl before. A barn owl and a few burrowing owls when we lived on a farm in the Texas panhandle. And when we first moved here (near Dallas) this house was more out in the country. I heard owls, but never saw them.

This was fun.
