My citrus have started the party out doors. Nagami kumquat in very bad shape but I believe it will live.. It is marked with the flying baseball cap. the crown marks my sweet lee tangerine tree. It was on its death bed then and is doing very well since planting there. The large tree below is my seed grown meiwa kumquat tree. In the process of moving it in and out I dropped it once and forgot to put in the spacer and burned the trunk with the light bulb. It has lost 1/3 of its leaves and shows no sign s of growth the smaller tree is a seed grown nagami kumquat. It is doing very well. 3 happy sweet lee tangerine trees from seed in bottomless gallon food tins. I had placed 3 sweetlee trees and a nagami kumquat tree in the community garden. Squirrels dug 3 sweetlee trees and the nagami up, one was replantable but died. the seed grown nagami was in critical damaged and was moved on to the roof as seen in the flying baseball cap. Here are few shots of the tomatoes (and few other herbs and vegetables) I have in containers on my south-facing patio in a rooftop apartment in Germany. The first pic is a partial family photo with granny yellow pear in the middle. She sprouted last october from fruit I had just left to rot. I brought her indoors where she grew very slowly over the winter. At times, it didn't look like she was going to pull through. Obviously, she survived: This side of the yellow pear: Notice the red-tailed bumble bee! Three of them are buzzing around like clockwork several times a day. That side of the yellow pear: Next picture is of a patio tomato (together with a jalapeno) taken a few days ago before transplanting. Both plants were doing just fine until about two weeks ago: all new shoots and blossoms on the tomato became very weak as soon as the sun was shining. Several kind forum members advised me that my container (12 liters) was much too small and gave some good advice. Today after transplanting into a basket (32 liters) lined with mosiqito net: If the weather clears up any time soon, I'll hopefully be able to report progress in the near future. Joe

Hi all, I'll get in on this action. I enjoyed the 2009 series a lot and told myself I'd join in if it started up again in 2010. 3/25/10, 12 days after planting: The lower of two sets of growing trays - mostly tomatoes. I raised the lights up to take the picture, so don't start yelling at me about how they're too far away. Shown here are: Anna Russian, Better Boy, Big Boy, Big Mama, Bobbie, Brandywine, Cowlick's Brandywine, and OTV Brandywine. All in all we are trying 22 varieties in all this year (assuming they all sprout, that is - still two holdouts). We are definitely looking forward to trying a bunch of new things as well as some old reliables. Happy Gardening everyone. - Chris
