I had a lot of small plants that got leggy under the grow lights before I got them outside. Then they got hit with all this wind we've been having and lost most of their leaves. but I planted them anyway and used extra soil around the long stems to prop them upright. Then of course I had to cover them with pots and baskets to protect them from the freezing temps last night. the little squeakers are only about 4" tall, but gee I hate to lose them cause I grew them from a seed and I kinda get that maternal instinct thing going. I was running around in the freezing cold in frog jammies and bright orange protective gloves while swearing up a storm. I was covering plants and dragging them in like a lunatic. My DH seeing I was in a rotten mood was trying really hard not to laugh. I'm surprised they didn't drag me off to the nuthatch. PJ

oh my gosh, what a visual!!

i remember several years ago, i spent so much time
dragging tender babies in from the cold, then dragging
them back out during warm-ups that i decided to give
away all my tropicals and go with natives

the only place to keep them during hard freezes was smack in the middle of my living room, so of course, i had to
put them back outside at the first chance

if it wasn't for the fact that i had, at the time, an infant, i would have left the suckers right in the middle
of the floor

but after the third, or fourth time of doing that, i came
to a decission no more tropicals/tender plants

i've since tried to find some middle ground, and do
own a few tender things, but most of my stuff is hardy

but with this late frost we had, i was still runnin'
around and covering up veggies

I cut way the heck back on tropicals too. OMG that was a serious pain!!! PJ
