I'm in my new house, and the tomatoes have been moved! Their new spot gets much more sun, and they've gotten huge practically overnight.

The ones in the back of the picture on the left hand side were just planted this weekend. I have three more to plant!

We transplanted seven plants on April 18th and an eighth on May 2nd. The cherry tomatoes were the first to fruit. These photos are from yesterday, June 2nd.

Time is going by so quickly. Won't be long before we all have ripe
tomatoes. One of my bloody butcher tomatoes is turning color. All
my tomatoes now have fruit. Fighting a little bit of early blight.

This is the harvest for this week. The big one on the left is my first Cherokee Purple grown from seed. I hope I did not harvest too soon. Maybe one of the more experienced members can comment. The larger one on the right is a Big Beef. It has some unusual features.

It looks like that Cherokee Purple needs some time to ripen in the house. The great thing about bringing them in a little early is that no critter gets to your rip tomato before you do. I am sure it will be mighty tasty.

I had planned on harvesting early, and then letting the Cherokee ripen inside the house. I just could not take a chance on this first one.

hmmm the Big Beef certainly has a funny appendage! lol

They are looking terrific, I don't know if I started too late but I'm just now getting flowers and its June 5th 2010 already, but we'll see. Good luck with the rest of your harvest.

My first year growing maters, but I am very proud of myself so far. Sorry for the blurrycam but hopefully you can get enough detail out of it. I started out with three plants from Home Depot, and then all of the sudden after a visit to the Farmers Market it turned into 11. Just for fun, my impatiens along the side of the house are spreading like wildfire. They are behind a couple of Husky Cherry tomato plants.

Harvest time in Texas. With temps already in the 100's I doubt I'll get many new fruit to set, but I've got plenty still on the vines.

The tomatoes with the quarters are, left to right, Indian Stripe, Giant Belgium, and a mystery Yellow.

This is part of my garden. Trellised melons, eggplants, and cucumbers are in the front and tomato plants are in the back.

Suburban green, nice harvest you have there and a cute little

with 50% humidity.... 100's, wow, that's hot..

Thank you. Yes, all my tomatoes were started from seed. Just
finished spraying my tomatoes with Daconil for early blight. It
is not too bad right now, want to make sure it doesn't spread.
It is good to inspect your plants every couple days to see what
disease or pest may be on them. Also found a black worm on
one tomato plant. 2 cucumber beetles on my cucumber plant
and a couple of stink bugs doing the hanky panky. They are all
in bug heaven now.

My pics are rather sick. I got back into this too late to do any good here in Miami. No tomatoes, sick plants. Winter is the growing season in Miami.

In no cal we've had a bit of a cold dtart to summer but my plants are looking OK. a few flowers but no fruit set yet.

Well it certainly looks like our northern zones are finally getting started and by July will have caught up with the southern zones with maters growing wildly. gbbount I'd love the nice wide open spaces you have for your maters. They will really develop into a nice farm of maters real soon!!! garf if you get some liquid seaweed and spray and do a soil drench it should help the maters plants along this year. My small back yard is now a tomato jungle and now the real test begins. Finding the pests and spraying BT as summer comes along with the bugs.

Nice shot of the mantid there, this winter I collected a bunch of the egg cases and when they started hatching I put some of the nymphs in my garden so I will see some bigger mantids in my garden later in the year.

Thanks catman! I remember you mentioning collecting egg cases...very cool...I'll have to look out for them, but with my luck I'd probably pick up some kind of wasp nest instead, LOL! What time of year did you find them, and when did the nymphs emerge?

I had a few mantids in my garden last year, so one of them must have made a nest in my shrubbery somewhere. I didn't see the egg case, but I've been observing 20 or so juvenile mantids all over my plants this year. It's interesting watching them mature...they grow so quickly, changing from brownish to more green and thicker bodied, some faster than others. The runts need to catch up and eat some whiteflies! Please...and quickly, LOL!

I've read that Aunt Ruby's German Green was not a heavy producer....Mine are loaded with HUGE fruits that are some of the best tomatoes I've tasted. I'll post a couple photos of the plants soon.

kingkongos - very nice tomatoes and somewhat tortuous photo of them for people like me who are still waiting for the small green ones to grow and ripen. I'm hoping to try a green variety next year. Almost tried green zebra this year.

A mid-June Zone 8b harvest here in hot, humid Charleston, SC...The top heat/humidity setters at the moment are Black Prince with 39 on the vine right now, this particular plant seems unstoppable. Right behind is the San Marzano, it can set 8 at a time on a single truss, and then Big Beef. I notice it also is setting three at a time on a truss.

I have 12 tomatoes in the ground: opalka, yellow pear, chocolate cherry, sweet 100, cherokee chocolate, kbx, cowlick's brandywine, big zac, box car willie, dr wyche's yellow, omar's lebanese and nar. as you can see, i've placed them in cages... do i still have to provide stakes for them or is the cage enough as a support? if i do have to provide a stake, which variety should i stake, or do i have to stake all of them? it'd be nice to know this early so i could provide the necessary stake support before they become bigger. also, which ones usually goes higher than 5'? i know yellow pear, chocolate cherry and sweet 100 does... how about the others? i only have a 5' cage, do i have to top them off when the time comes? thanks for any advice you can give, i'd greatly appreciate it.
