I'm at the same stage as you catman. No little seedling's yet. I did
enjoy looking at everyone's tomatoes last year. This year I'm planting
mostly new varieties. Heart tomatoes will be new for me. I have a
feeling I'm going to really like them. Looking forward to 2010 season.

Here's a shot of some tomatoes and peppers before I potted them individually. I started way too early, winter was gettin' me down, lol

I've got mine started at my office in a south facing window. This is my first year starting from seeds. I wanted to try a bunch of different heirloom varieties that aren't sold at the garden centers so I went crazy buying seeds and have about a hundred seedlings of a dozen different varieties. They're all just getting their first sets of real leaves right now so I've got a ways to go before they will be ready to move outside. I'm really excited to see how it all turns out!

I've grown tomatoes for years but this is the first season I've committed to growing my entire garden from seed. These were sown on 2-15 and seem happy so far ...

Today is Day 66 (March 7th) and I'm hoping for a red (or green, yellow, purple) tomato by Memorial day (Day 150)

Here are my Romas just transplanted today at 41 days, they are looking a little sad after transplant, but are perking up under their new lights.I planted these a wee bit too early for Cleveland, but I want tomatoes all summer rather than all at once.

I also planted organic Beefsteaks, Brandywine Reds, and Cherokee purples today, but they are bundled up on top of the fridge right now.

Hey Knightfarms, I think you may be giving those plants too much water, clip off the cotylendums (sp?) and I would plant them in bigger pots + light fertilizer.

Hey tn veggie gardner, What do you plant those toms in ? It looks pricey.

Readhead, I think you may be able to get a ripe tomatoe even earlier.

Tomatoes are very "transplant friendly", especially if they are young. I separate them by thoroughy watering, even soaking
before that. As I separate them pour some gentle wather on tangleed roots. They will coms separate by gentle shaking.
After transplanting, I would flood them again, so that the air get out
and soil snuggs the rpoots.
If they can transplant human hearts, you can transplant a tomato plant(trans--plant ?)

read: Well, what you see is about 1/2 an inch to an inch of Perlite on top mixed in with some occasional other items that surfaced from some watering. I found a great soil recipe while mixing some things up for the plants' last homes before going outdoors. =)

I thought on it some but since the transplanting is moving the pot inside to an even larger hydro container outside when the weather permits, I was not going to separate them. I was just going to make sure the air spacing was good and keep them partially shaded during the summer months.

My tomato plants so far. The big ones started 45 days ago. The smaller ones started like 23 days ago.

Here are my 2010 tomatoes. I seeded them 2/6/10, and then repotted them 2/27/10 into Miracle Grow potting mix. I have them under two fluorescent shop lights on wire rack wrapped with mylar in the garage. Hopefully I can plant them outside in two weeks.

Cyrus gardner, thanks for your tips for thinning plants. After reading some of the other comments, I feel better about my spindly seedlings.

Heres some of my super beefsteak seedlings. They look a bit sad because they barely got sun and they got too cold, but now a have my grow lights.

Here is my tomatoes that has been in the ground for 5 weeks now.

I tried some in a plastic starting tray and some in TP rolls in a Corian casserole and am stunned at how much better the ones in glass are doing

Could someone tell me how to resize photos in PhotoBucket? The large pics are great for detail, but they don't need to be as large as these.
