Geraniums are so pretty - why not splurge and enjoy them during the spring. I was thinking of getting a couple for my two containers in the front. I keep Rosemary in them and like to add a little seasonal color and that just might be the thing to put in there. Thanks for the idea.

As far as breaking promises . . . hmmmmm . . . I think I actually kept some this year. I finally called the city last month to come out and replace our front sidewalk that had sections that sunk or went crooked. In the process of doing that, the heavy machinery they used - backhoe and cement truck collapsed a section of street in front and now they're replacing that too. Glad it is getting done. And, since we had the sidewalk replace and I had landscaping timbers across there to hold back my raised beds, we had to tear those out and we replaced it with the big blocks of stone. That is something I have wanted to do for a long time and finally talked DH into getting the stone. The tax refund helped with that. ;-)

I think that instead of breaking promises, I tend to procrastinate and still need to buy more mulch for the flowerbeds in the front and backyard. They all need to be topped off and cover some areas that have gone bare. Oh, and I still need to call the doctor to make an appointment for my annual exam . . . oops . . . that's not gardening! hee-hee!

I love geraniums. I found them in a jumbo 6 pack, and I use them in with my trailing rosemary. It is a lovely pot, and they bloom and bloom.

I love geraniums too! I like the trailing ones in pots and on the ground. I have a friend born on St. Pattie's day and guess what she gets from me for BD!

I try to buy the zonals. Maybe they are tougher, maybe not. Anyone Know for sure......Janie????

I believe they are the ones with a dark margin on the leaves. Last year, friend had her pot in bloom all summer until first frost! Now that's a bargain!

I did promise not to buy any plants at the Home and Garden show here. BUT they had blood lily bulbs(scadoxis)!! AND Jimbos was there with bromeliads. So I got 2 gingers, 4 bromeliads, 2 scadoxis and no other plants or bulbs. But it's not my fault! I was going to order blood lilies from Brent & Becky's and I was going over the causeway to Jimbos next week anyway to buy bromeliads. And who can resist a ginger they don't have?
So, where do I get some geraniums?

maden theshade, I have lots of seeds already that need to be planted but to have the satisfaction of blooming flowers was just to much for me to resist :) and I can't promise not to buy any more plants cause I have a new bed to fill with red and white flowers hehehe.
Not to mention anyone's name but a little birdie told me about fort worth botanical gardens was selling plants in a few weeks and I can't miss that one, can I? I mean where else can I get great plants at a great price and and and hummmmm oh yeah it's so much fun too.

I am the same way! A datura got too waterlogged and died over winter, but the pot is so pretty and looks great by the front door. Suddenly I have an 'excuse' to buy a new flowering plant and my heart just lifts. Do y'all think I need a 12-step program? heheheh

I have the solution for your problem with breaking promises to yourself about plants... give in to the dark side. Accept that you are a plantaholic and stop making those silly promises. HA.

To paraphrase an old joke I heard about farmers. What would I do with the millions from the lottery if I won it? Buy plants... until it was all gone.

My biggest problem comes when the Heard Natural Science Museum in McKinney has their native plant sale in April. I can't get out of there without a few new plants. Oh, and I got a gift certificate to my favorite local nursery, so I have to use that too! I always have room for more plants and if I don't I'll make room! Now I am wanting to go out and get those geraniums!

I don't understand. Why would you make such a promise? Surely we're not giving in to the dark side when we beautify our yards? Not to mention the great stress relief. It's got to be good for us. Right???

At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Now let me get this straight, the "I'm not buying any more plants" support group is meeting to go to several plant sales. We're going to buy and plant seeds. We're going to spend the lottery winnings on plants, get some new plants to replace those that die......

He's a good man never complains about my spending money on plants but then I don't buy the high priced ones either so guess that helps LOL.
I had know idea it could be this way, guess I now know how someone hooked on other hobbies feel :)

Have you seen this wonderful quote on the winter sowing forum? It could be taken as a warning but way too late for most of us.

We're going to have to figure out how to earn gas money. We don't want to spend our plant money on gas and we can't carpool, unless someone has a really big trailer. We'll just fight over who gets the most room to bring plants home.
