Hello, everybody, glad you enjoyed the pictures. First, the mulch we use is mostly pine needles. However, unlike Brad--lucky man--we don't have an unlimited supply so if we must, we resort to the hay that is baled out of our field. It is okay in that it does suppress weeds, but then it can also produce weeds, I love pine needles for mulch, they do such a good job and they usually stay in place, unless we have really heavy rains. As to the daylilies, I don't consider us at peak yet. There are still several out there that are yet to bloom. Also, since I totally lost my mind and ordered a number of mini-to small flowered daylilies, these are now producing scapes and so we will have more pictures to come of them when they bloom. In fact, today Lullaby Baby bloomed two perfect first blooms. They are planted in a spot that receives the sun very early so I couldn't get the photo, will check them tonight to see what condition they are in, really want to get a picture. Also, there are three more daylilies yet to arrive, Lillian's Vapor Trail and two more smalls, Black Velvet Baby and Everybody Loves Earnest. Now, about Stealth Bomber, Mantis, amazingly enough. I don't think there has been a bad bloom yet. What a difference several months make. The plant looks totally different now from when it arrived last fall. I did a bid count on L. Thin Ice yesterday, think around 20 buds on the scape I checked, and that is fine to me, and also realistic. I believe the only DL I have that was 50+buds was Beautiful Edgings, happened the first year planted, and never done it since. Ocean Spirit was planted last fall and had two scapes that bloomed these beautiful flowers. Maryl, do you think this is the UF that will hook you? Thanks to all of you for your comments. They are appreciated. Dublin Elaine clump--at least 10 flowers and they are all double. When the day comes to divide this one, we will need a backhoe.

My tomato season is over too. Too hot, too many stink bugs. I may leave a few healthy plants in place to see if they can make it on their own (I will continue to add water). I tried a second tomato season last year and lost them all to heat and a hurricane. Surprisingly, I learned pepper plants fare OK during a hurricane. I have a set of potted pepper plants in some dappled shade. They are blooming and setting and producing. I have two potted Carbon Cherokees too to try to figure out if there is a place in my yard that is pollination-possible given the right combination of sun/shade. I also have a big pot of fresh mint in the shade for an occasional juleps libation, which I will enjoy will looking at photos of past harvests and staying cool in the house. Saw 111 on the way home one day already.

More kudos for Red seedling! But I have to say that Wigged Out is Bizarre with a capital B!!! The description at AHS mentions a bloom, but even their photo doesn't show much. Does it bloom right up there in the middle of the "wig"? Does it ever set pods? Alex

Maryl - Yes, that's Maui Sunrise. It.s a hard dormant that would overwinter beautifully in a pot. Julia - Are the Maui Sunrise blooms huge for you? I didn't measure, but they seemed even bigger than 7 inches yesterday. Thanks so much for that one. In the past two years, it's bloomed when the temps were near 100 and it was very faded. I'm seeing now what the bloom really looks like. It's always orange here, and doesn't have the reddish tones it has for you. Debra
