Removing worms to start a 2nd bin

I've had my worm bin since February and I'm interested in starting a second smaller bin (covered pail). I would love to get some tips from you more experienced folks here. I am not quite ready to harvest my first bin yet, but I wondered if there would be any harm in taking out 50 or so of the largest worms and putting them in the new bin to start it? I would feed them quite sparingly to start with until I see that the population has grown. Of course I have no idea if this would be detrimental to my first bin or if the large worms would reproduce as quickly as I would hope they would. Is it too few even for a pail? It's a square, covered pail that cat litter came in. Would it harm my first bin to take out the biggest worms?
