I think i have mites?

I'd post a picture, if i could ... i've been indoor composting for about a year now and I use a large, plastic bin. I've noticed in the past few weeks a HUGE amount of little black, round insects crawling all over the inside and lid of my composting bin. They also migrate outside of the bin. It's not a problem, yet, as the insects seem to die when they crawl out of the bin. I'm just worried it may affect my worms which have been true champs, so far.

Are these the mites I've read about? Are they harmful to the worms? My bin is feeling a bit warm and moist lately. Anyone have any tips?

One other thing. All of my friends want to start this, and I'd like to give them some of my worms. I think i've seen some eggs. I read they're small, yellow and look like lemons? Do the worms really breed and do the eggs really hatch?

Thanks for any advice. I'm looking forward to my first harvest this spring.
