I don't know where you can find the plant in the Houston area, but I'll be glad to send you some seed. Email me your address and I'll put some in the mail for you. They grow well from seed or cuttings.

I have one at my office and one at home. Each year the plant gets better, i.e. more stems come up from the roots.

Wow, Thanks for the quick responses and offers! I've heard they are nice bushes and I never thought of looking for seed. I don't have much to offer in trade other than torch sunflower, zinnia in orange/red or yellow, and moring glory/cardinal climber vines. I'd be happy to send those though.

Could someone post how you get the seeds to germinate? I've tried two years in a row but none of them germinated.

I planted them like I do any other seed, Ann, and had a good percentage germination. I start my seeds in starter mix, as it is much easier for the sprout to push through once it germinates. However, I am expecting to have seedlings under my large bush later on in the season. Maybe not, but I have been told to expect them.

I've never had any issues with the seed coming up. Maybe you got some old seed, don't know. If you are close to Belton the Master Gardeners have some rooted cuttings they will be selling in their spring plant sell this April. (I know because I took the cuttings and got them started before I gave them to the greenhouse.) You don't want to put this plant out till after the cold weather passes for the year.

Do a little research on the plant before you put in into your beds. It likes full sun and will put on a good show, but it also attracts every bug in town. The bugs don't seem to bother the plant and I ignore them, but some of you might object to the bugs. I know the MG have a fit if you get near the greenhouse with one of the blooms.

It also gets a little leggy, so you need something at the base to help it out. I have a pink Lantana planted next to it. The BMG may get up to six foot tall with the blooms at the top, but the lantana fills in the bottom and the blooms match well. I was told to cut it back by half in late July, but that is really hard to do when its blooming. I did cut it back this past year but was not really sure it much other than keep it from blooming for a week or two.

Wow I would love some seed to are they as aggresive as morning glory vines.If yal want to trade I have alot of seeds ,Cassia,milkweed,passiflora,porterweed,white vained pipevine(Fimbriata),hydrain bean vine,would love to trade for a morning glory bush.
