I was just thinking how it's been awhile since we've been treated to photos of your garden! Yes, what a beautiful show of spiders lilies and rain lilies. I love the tropical looking hanging flower in the last photo too!

I was looking again and just noticed that hanging basket in which the Nong Nooch is planted is really beautiful!

The Nong Nooch is tropical, originally from Vietnam Nam.

Roselee, the hanging basket is made to hold a coconut fiber liner that fits it perfectly. I'm beginning to think that I should have lined it inside with plastic. The coconut fiber just doesn't last.

Hey Jim,

You are so right about that coconut fiber in our humidity, it won`t even make it through one season.

My yellow lycoris bloomed back in May but the red are popping up here too. I love those bulbs.

Nong Nooch is a vine? You`ll have to let me know how it does.

I went to Maas to get new coconut liners for my 20" hanging baskets. They were $17.00 apiece, so I got 1/4" hardware cloth instead, and will put plastic inside that.

You should come now! I have a lot of stuff that I'm about to dig and divide!

Would love to visit. A trip to your place has been pending from spring. Yes, the coconut liner didn't do any good for me. I had one set up facing my kitchen sink window and it looks so pathetic. :( I have to do a better job with pots and hanging baskets.

I've started using Mediterian fan palm leaves, which I have growing in my yard, to line hanging baskets. I lay it in while green, then put plastic with a hole in the bottom on top of them, and then the potting soil. I cut the palm leaves evenly along the top after the potting soil has settled in. It's been working very well. Before I thought of the palm leaves, which are very long lasting, I lined with deer netting then put a thin layer of mulch from the tree trimers, then plastic and potting soil.

If you like the look of coconut liner some places sell it by the foot. You could use it and then line with plastic to keep it looking nice longer.

Just some ideas that maybe people can use ....

Garden Ridge also has cheaper coconut liners. I've also put plastic bags in the bottom to hold the water a little better.

You can use old blue jeans to line hanging baskets.

Sylvia, that's a fantastic idea! It would give a nice pale blue color to the basket, hold in the soil, drain well, but the water would not go right straight through leaving dry spots in the soil. I hadn't heard of doing that before.
