I know it's all about tomatoes, but dangit...this is the first time I've been successful at growing onions...

I'll take some pics of my pathetic lil seedlings whn my 2 year old goes to bed. atacosa that sure is a nice compact Stump of the World you have there. How close was the grow lamp? What did you feed it? I hope mine can look that compact. BTW...good looking onions. Ain't that EB great?

Looks great! Non-tomato crops are always welcome, at least in my opinion. This year is my first growing any kind of onion, and that would be leeks which have been very slow growing so far.

Lookin great all! Thanks catman for starting Part 3. I'm going post one and only one pic in the next few days on this post. What I have dubbed my "Monster Cherry Tomatoes." These things, after a little less than 4 weeks are 7-8 inches tall, about 4 inches wide & have thick healthy stems & roots. I have never seen a Cherry tomato grow that fast. My other tomatoes are half that size, if even & were planted a week later. Just gotta wait to borrow my friend's digital camera since the wife has ours. Peace - Steve

8 weeks as of today and they are in their final home!!!!!!!!!!!

Earthworm..it was placed 2 inches under T8 6500k shop lights..and has been potted up twice..and planted in Canadian Sphagnum peat moss with a sprinkle of Osmocote, and given a weekly diluted drink of liquid seaweed. Keeping an oscillating fan on it helped out getting it nice and stocky..

We may possibly get a freeze tonight and I have way too many plants to cover...most are over 2 foot with cages one them,,so if everything gets nipped, well at least I'll this Stump of the World to fall back on.

Here are this season's tomatoes. Told ya they are pathetic. Most have baby true leaves. I have a fan on them 3 times a day and mid-week I will give them a weak solution of fish emultion. This year I am growing Kellogg Breakfast, Siletz, Siberian, & Stupice.

I forgot to say I am growing San Marzano too.

Ok, here we go, finally I got some pictures taken (got a digital camera). First will be my favorite, at only 4 weeks and 1 day old, are the largest Cherry tomato seedlings at that age that i've ever seen. =) I've dubbed them my "Monster Cherry Tomatoes."

Any pointers to boost the San's & Early's growth a bit? They've had 2 small doses of diluted (1/4 then 1/2) MG Tomato food & regular water.

Planted 3 weeks ago. There are brandywine, black krim, big rainbow, 4th of july, and the heirloom mix from burpee. Also a few different peppers. I'm a first timer, this is making me happy. I made a homemade starter mix out of sphagnum peat moss and worm castings.

Great looking seedlings, definitely beats my first year's seedlings.

Many different kinds displayed here. The growth has really come on with the warm up.

the peas sure seemed to benefit from having the tomato cages to climb...

This brandywine also seems happy with the living arrangements for now.....later on the peas will be harvested so the tomato will get all the space and all the sun.

My San Marzano's & Early Girls have finally started taking off about a week ago and are growing at a nice rate now. Here's an update on my Cherry Tomatoes...

BUMP...These plants are a foot tall at still less than 5 weeks from seed.

Might have to start pt.4 sooner than I thought...but I'll wait a little longer...

I agree with catman (was thinking that b4 I read his post). They do look great, but are quite ready to be potted up, IMO. Maybe rotate the ones from the back/middle to the front (ones with slightly wrinkled leaves). I think they might be getting a tad bit much light/heat.

Yuppers. Here is one of the tomatoes potted up. I like this one best because it looks ready to climb out of the cup. Sorry for the weird white balance, I have them growing under a combination HPS/MH bulb.

Ok, here are my newest "baby" pictures, these were planted on April 12, and just sprouted the 16th.

Cherokee Chocolate was the first to come up, with an Aker's West Virginia in the back right cell and a Crnkovic Yugoslavian beginning to peep above the starting mix in the back left (it was planted the 13th, from 6 year old seeds, so it is a "go getter"). The one in the cell at the right edge of the picture is a Brandywine. The two in the back left cell of the tray in the back are Julia Childs.

So far Aunt Ginny's Purple, Yellow Brandywine, Shuntukski Giant, and Olena Ukrainian have also sprouted out of the 40+ varieties I have planted. Still waiting for the other cells in the 6 packs to sprout.

Now that I have more space in the flat that is on the heat mat, I'll be planting more tomatoes over the next few days and will do some cherry tomatoes last.

I was wondering if I had started these too late, but they should all be about 6 weeks when we plant out around Memorial day. BTW, we had 3"+ of snow on Wednesday the 15th. Just a typical late spring last hurrah (I hope) for this area.

Started 2 weeks later than last year, but also utilized the top of the water heater instead of the top of the refrigerator as I had used in previous years.

2/6/09 - Some sprouted, so they got moved off water heater to the basement light growing setup (on old school server rack)

3/3/09 - Lots of transplanting from seed starting cups over to sawed-off foam cups from Chick-Fil-A, Sam's Club, McDonalds, Sonic, etc (I save them all year.. better than in a landfill right away.. saw off and poke 4 holes in the bottom.. the plants can grow quite large in these)

3/16/09 - Getting unruly in the house

3/24/09 - Ran out of space under the lights.. so out to the makeshift 'greenhouse' which is a thick plastic bag from our sofa that I saved for years and put it over our clear glass patio table. Instant greenhouse!

4/05/09 - Supposed to possibly freeze this night. Better make some heat, just in case.
