New: Color of the Month for June - BLUE!

The color of the month swap for June is BLUE. We will need at least 5 people to sign up for this swap to go forward. POST HERE if you would like to participate. After signing up here on this thread, please send me an e-mail with your full name & address and your GardenWeb name. I will send out my address after there are at least 5 responders.

DEADLINE FOR SIGNING UP: June 16

DEADLINE FOR SENDING SEEDS: June 19

You may include seeds that produce BLUE flowers, foliage, fruits, or vegetables, or just have the word "BLUE" in their names!

You may send edible and non-edible seeds.

(Please specify what you would like back: edible, non-edibles, or a mix of both)

I will do my best to fill your request, but it all depends on what is sent in!

Absolutely NO Invasive Plants or Noxious Weeds!!!!

Please send seeds no older than 2 years old.

Please include on the packet label: the seed's name, a little blurb about it, and whether your seeds are from a commercial source or hand-collected.

The limit for all of the color swaps is 10 packs, but please feel free to send in extras. These will be counted as bonus packs and I will try to send bonuses back to those who send them in. You can send in as little as 1 pack of seeds, there is no minimum to send in.

Please send in the number of seeds that you would be comfortable receiving yourself depending on the variety. There should be a minimum of 10 seeds per pack.

Please send only 1 pack per variety. Again, you may send more than one pack of a certain variety, but please know that they will be counted as 'extras'. So each variety will be counted as one trade.

Sorry that this swap is being posted latter. I needed to wait to see if the original scheduled hostess was still planning on hosting this swap. I never heard back from them so I am posting the thread now. Lets get this swap started. I've got a bunch of blue seeds waiting for new homes in my seed box!!!

Thanks Al and Sam for making observations on the maple. I can say that it is in pretty strong shade and that it does have more purple shades earlier in the Spring. I am guessing it is correct still, but I could not say for sure. The source was someone on ebay, which is a great way to get cultivars that are mislabeled. Edwin, it does seem to be similar to 'Acracona', both in growth rate and habit. Time will tell, though it will probably be growing in a different spot in a year or two. Also, the variegated seedling is from Fresh Start nursery, a small one-man operation in Oregon. I believe the owner, Nathan, discovered the broom/seedling, but I'll do some research and get back to you. Dax, you are right, and it is ironic that the very reason I don't want to move to a place with bigger space is the work I have put in already in my current home. My gardens look mature *now* but I daresay yours will be the one to visit in twenty years, not mine. Thanks for the nice comments! -Will

Wow, June went by sooo fast, I can't believe July is just around the corner! I really enjoyed Jan's early birthday intro, and was able to prepare the box a little better just because of it. So, I'm going to do the same! My real birthday is December 17. Getting to celebrate my birthday during the summer for the first time is a real treat! I would never be able to receive any plants in December! I'm still working on my moon garden, and would appreciate anything that I could add to it (plants, seeds, small statues, etc). I also adore sunflowers, glass suncatchers, homemade soaps. Anything with a sunflower motiff is perfect. Candles (any scent), things for the garden, garden related items. I collect birdhouse items (any) especially crafted items by Marjolein Bastin (Hallmark). I love feeding the birds, and basically just love anything that has to do with nature! I also collect african violets, hoyas- (would love a piece of a 'crinkle' hoya, rope hoya (regular or variegated, or any unusual hoya, I already have Publicalyx, Silver pink, Phillipine black. I would love a few indoor ferns (don't have any), regular, rabbit's foot fern, or a division of an outdoor fern, that can tolerate cold temperatures. More indoor plants that I'm looking for are- a chunk of monstera, variegated monstera cutting/small plant. Variegated plants are my favorite, and am always wanting to try something new! I also appreciate vegetable/herb seeds. I have a huge garden that I'm constantly still trying to complete! Herbs grow really fast anyways! ;) I love Heirloom seeds too. I'm sooo excited to be the July birthday person! I'll be happy with ANYTHING, I love hand crafted items too! I make crafts occasionally, and know how much work goes into making something! Deb Debbya

Hello Susan; You should have said something during your birthday month. I know some lobstermen and I also know some people who have FedEx accounts. I probably could have taken care of your lobster fix. They have become expensive now and will be until the middle of July because they are molting now and do not move around much so the catch dries up. End of July, beginning of August, remind me, I will check it out and let you know. They can be sent live and will live 24 hours or can be cooked and sent and will last much longer. We can talk about it. On a much more exciting note, I recieved a wonderful box from Nancy (cedarnest) today. It had lots of bulbs and a beautiful decorative plate. I did not have a chance to disect it because we were rushing out the door to get on our new boat. That nearly turned disasterous as the engine died out in the Atlantic and Bush arrived today so the Coast Guard first told us they were too busy to come and help. The company we have contracted with to assist us in just such an emergency refused to come because of an approaching storm. The story goes on and on sounding worse by the minute but then some friends we called said they would come tow us in, the coast guard called back and said they were sending a 47 foot boat out and a third boat showed up with a backyard mechanic on board who fixed out engine as our friends arrived to tow us in. We did not see the Coast Guard, they did not make it in time and we did make it home under our own power with our friends following in case we had trouble. Needless to say it was almost dark by the time we arrived home and the storm never materialized (thank God) but I made myself a drink and dinner and came to visit. I think I am getting too old for this. The only good news is that was the third life threatening situation for DH. He tipped his kayak about six weeks ago and I had to drag his butt and kayak to shore, then he crashed in an airplane but no injuries and finally we bobbed along in a dead boat in the Atlantic for two hours this evening. He keeps trying to say we were never in any danger but I think he is nuts. I am on drink number two so please pardon grammer and spelling. I will end this now. I am well but very tired. Hi I didn't forget ya Carol. It's your birthday next month just 4 days after mine and I had ordered something special for you as a surprise to send with this package... supposed to be delivered on 06/28.... STILL not here. Hi everyone!

Today I received Blue Seeds from ihana. Thanks Tina! I'm still waiting for seeds from suzanne 719 and Shanti. I will give it until Monday, maybe Tuesday, for the other seeds to arrive and then I will sort and send your new seeds back to everyone. So seeds should go back into the mail for the return trip on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Thanks for your patience everyone.

Hello everyone!

Today, I received Shanti's blue seeds. Thank you Shanti!

That means I have received seeds from everyone but suzanne 719. I'm assuming she has dropped out, so today I will sort the seeds and repackage them for their return trip. I will check for Suzanne 719's seeds one last time tomorrow morning and do a quick repack if necessary. The Blue Seeds will go in the mail for their return trip tomorrow. Thanks for waiting everyone!

Hi everyone!

The BLUE SEEDS are in the mail! I didn't quite make it to the post office in time yesterday, so they went in the mail this morning. Thanks for all of the interesting seeds that you all sent in! Please post here when you get your seeds, so that I know that they arrived safely.

ihana, no big deal! Just as long as they get here, that is all that really matters.
