with a clean cut and a root tone application before planting chances are about 70% in a pot..dunno about straight into the ground

Maybe removing the blooms and a lot of the foliage will help as well??

I've always read that frangipani cuttings should be allowed to callus over before planting---most of the on-line nurseries that sell them say they need to be planted 15 to 30 days after they're cut.

usually this an be done in a few days and the root tone is to avoid mold/fungus growth

I have had outstanding (100%) success with these cuttings- allow it to callous over before planting it, plant it in full or near full sun, do not mulch it, and DON'T WATER IT more than once every one to 2 WEEKS. Don't water it at all if it even sprinkles a little or dews outside. It will be fine planted directly DEEPLY in the ground if you don't over-water it. If it rots under the soil, cut it off again and start all over and don't water it at all.

"Cutting" is doing great, still flowering - looks happy. As I said I'm breaking all the rules. Most of you said keep it dry. Well I could do nothing about the torrential rain in the last 2 weeks! Will keep you all posted...

you're in the high sun season, so the natural rains you get wouldn't bother the frangipani. "YOU" haven't been watering it.

As long as your soil is fast draining and the plant never sits in water, you'll have success with it.

Great looking blooms. This post reminds me of the time I got a "cutting," it was about half the size of yours and freshly cut from my neighbors plumeria tree(12 feet tall, 6-7 ft canopy). I stuck it into a large pot and it lived.

well i was just reading on how to get these to root and i read you should cut the bottom and then you put it in rooting hormone then stick it in a 1 gallon pot filled with some perlite and peat moss and they said that in like 3 to 4 weeks it was rootbound so i think that if you cut the bottom of it and did that and waited that your plant should have some roots and it would have a better chance of surviving
