Your mangoes are looking very tasty and inviting, especially with our special Asian sauce...lol. If my Zebda and Graham even has one fruit that matures I'd be fantastically thrilled!

Kristy: Not sure what the strawberry cherry is........but Barbados cherry is acerola...the vitamin c fruit. Some are better than others. The birds liked them much better than I did. I did not replace this tree after the hurricane blew it down. On the Surinam Cherry....it is an acquired taste. The one I have is very good, but some have a very strong flavor that has been decribed by one of my friends as tasting like a diesel berry. Good luck with your new trees. The mango and gefner atemoya will be great in any case.

Looks like you got a good fruit set on your lychees. I guess the cold didn't bother them. All of mine dropped every one except for my emperor.

Unbelievable. But hey...weren't you recently complaining about your mangos being near fruitless? Looks to me like you have pretty good thing going there! Of course...you do have 90 other trees that you didn't show us!!!! LOL!

Exactly. Believe me, the amount of mangoes I have will be very, very limited. Actually, 90 other virtually fruitless trees is not a bad estimate. Figures this would happen when I started to offer everyone on this Forum access, tastes, shipments, etc. You all may have to wait until next year for availablity of fruit. Sorry.

No, the cold seemed to egg the lychees on. We had no cold damage, even with below freezing temps, on the lychee leaves. The blooms came after.....might have had a severe effect if the blooms had been blasted by the cold.

Those jakfruit sprouts are coming out of the base of trees that are well foliated. Only the Tabouey x J- 30 died back to just above the ground. Others lost some leaves and had terminal bud burn...but my jakfruit trees in general should be able to put on a very substantial crop this year. As you can see though, it is just starting. No actual fruit set as of yet.

I'm not jealous, not one bit. I dont wish to grow such beautiful trees and fruit, I prefer mine to look more like sticks and never fruit. :) Unbelievable yard, glad you have pics to prove it. I agree with MK, you photos are looking much better (not that they were bad).

Absolutely awesome! Your Pakstani Mulberries are like 10 times the size of my little anemic looking mulberrys (all I know is 'weeping'). Did you do the Imam Pasand mango graft yourself? The miracle of nature in your jak fruits recovery is awesome too!

I would love to see your Neelum too! (it's going to be my next mango one of these days)!

harry, i was asking about the Tabouey x J- 30 tree specifically, if it was dead from the trunk up or how far up it its still alive.

curious because it looks like its in the "my biological clock is ticking i need to reproduce" mode by focusing its energy producing low branches that produce fruit. unless thats just where the dead wood stops and where normal new growth begins.

anyway it will be interesting to watch.

I still think you are confusing the pictures on the jaks. The Tabouey cross is sending out the smallest of new growths. No indication of blooming or fruiting yet, and I would not expect it to do anything other than to leaf out. The tree was dead to the ground as far as I knew. The bark was actually separating from the underlying wood on the entire tree virtually to the ground....except where you see this new growth. The pictures with bloom spurs on them are other trees.

I will take some pictures of Dot and Neelum....would have tonight but Murahilin came over and did some really interesting grafts on some mango and lychees. Spent about 3 hours digging around in the dark and drizzly yard and then on to the grafting......a great night to be sure....if you're into that sort of thing. Hopefully will have a new mango to plant out. Received some Rapoza mango budwood from Hawaii today. Its supposed to be very good.

Yes, I did the graft on the Imam Pasand myself. You see my obvious success.....but not pictured are the other 8 plants that I did at the smae time that all didn't take. In my defense, it was not the best time of year to do the grafts and there were inadequate rootstock available to grafting onto.

Sad top hear about the mangoes. Now I know I have to check out your orchard this summer. I am going to be down there the last week of August. Will have to see what is available. Kristi told me that Atemoyas are in season then. I really want to try them so I can see what I have to llok forward to. If they truly are cherimoya like in flavor, I will be very happy! I put cherimoya in my top 3 favorite fruits. I don't even know if I could choose between a great tasting cherimoya and an excellent mango. I never though another fruit would make me say that!
Well I am glad to see that some of your trees are really pulling thru. I would have been pretty upset myself to see the devastation your orchard has seen. Do you ever feel like sthrowing in the towel? I could not imagine what it would feel like to lose your favorite trees that have been growing for 20 years. That's when I know that even if I cant grow tropicals in the ground, I still have it good. Without having to worry about tornado damage, hurricanes, and flooding! You must have spent a ton of time working on all those trees. The attention you give them is obvoius. Even if the mangoes are sparse, your trees look very healthy. Good job Harry!!

Nice pics Harry, the last pina looks to be a 'Royal Hawaiian' pineapple. If so, it'll have pale yellow flesh, low acidity, quite tasty. The reddish middle leaf and red leaf bracts were typical on mine.

Harry, did you start any air layers of Edaw for me?

Thanks for the pineapple ID. You know, now that I think of it, I have some in pots already that are actually flowering and fruiting. But they are very old and I am sure pot bound....maybe ready to be a giant bonsai. I'll put some freah ones on...I think'll you do better with them.

If you end up with a Maha Chanook or two seedling, I'd be interested too. Or Jakfruit seedling :) Regardless, I'd be very happy with only an Edaw, love longans.

Didn't you get a Maha Chanook grafted tree from me years ago? Also, wasn't it you that gave me the Gary mango tree when you came down years ago? My memory is very foggy on this. You want Maha Chanook seedlings? I have jakfruit seedlings from fruits grown on my trees. The problem is that I may not be able to ID them as I grew them for root stock purposes. But, they would be worth growing out as they have come from good fruiting trees.

Here's a shot of my 5 year old (in the ground) Neelum tree. Not really much perspective, so I would say it is about 7 feet tall and about 4 feet wide.

Below, the smaller tree in front is Julie and the tree behind is Dot. It is about 15 years in the ground. For perspective, the Julie is about 7 feet tall.

Another angle......Julie to the left, Dot behind and to the left, then Bombay (center and behind) and Mallika to the right.

Harry: Many of my mangos were killed by the freeze in January, including the Maha. I'd love to get some Jakfruit seedlings from quality parents if you have availability when the Edaw is ready. Thanks for helping, it was a difficult winter unfortunately, but I have replaced a lot of things so far.

I didn't get to put the layer on Edaw last night. I will this weekend. They are rooting out in about 90 days. No jakfruit as of yet, but I do have seedlings available from previous years if you want, I just wouldn't be able to give you their exact pedigree. They are, however, all from my trees, so you can't go too far wrong.

Sorry to hear about your maha dying. You didn't answer my other question....was it you that gave me the gary mango?

I picked up a Dot from the Manatee County Sale. Only had two there that I saw and had a hard time finding one anywhere close to Pasco. I 'pugged' the tree back down to 24".
