Shamed my rose into blooming, put in the punishment chair
Comments (6)Your story made me laugh. If I were a rose, I would not want to be planted by a trashcan. I have the same problem with my Constance Spry. It's been two years with no blooms. This is it's third year and it will have to go if I don't see blooms this year. It is a huge thorny monster and taking up prime real estate in my garden. I could probably place three roses in it's location. Wish I could move it near the trashcan area to humiliate it too, but it's simply too huge. So no blooms by June and it's ta ta Constance. Comments (5)Thanks for your answers. Yea, that was exactly my thinking after this encounter, like, why buy a new one, just divide this Dark Star that gets crowded by some gorgeous fern, and then be rather safe than sorry, So, I need to check the list of this reliable nursery which has also a mail order service and see what really to plant coming autumn. So, happy gardening, cheers, Lin...See MoreIs there shame in buying furniture from
Comments (10)I bought furniture from Big Lots (upholstered) and it lasted less than a year. I have 3 kids and 4 cats, but I would not say that they were rough on it. The fabric was a chenille and it just did not wear well at all. I felt that it wasn't worth it. I was really disappointed because I loved the style of it. Just remember it's promotional quality and not meant to last long. On the other hand, there's no sense buying something super expensive with kids around (in my opinion). We ended up buying an Ektorp slipcovered sofa from IKEA. It's sturdy and I can change the covers as needed (for about $200)....See Morethe joy (and shame) of buying trees.
Comments (18)Cheers, Maackia. Yeah, it's hard...but I am learning to cope (smirk). On a non-tree note, the household members gave me some severe hard-eye when I rocked up with a rubus I had been craving - r.thibetanus 'Silver Fern'. Frankly, I don't understand the fuss - it's not as if I had traipsed in with r.cockburnianus (or the plant substitute for barbed wire). Already have just the spot, in front of a gloomy yew hedge...and will (obviously) need to acquire a Himalayan birch (or 2) to carry on with the ghostly stem theme. Those b.utilis (and to a lesser extent, b.septentrionalis) always look good as multi-stemmed specimens...and this is certainly how I plan on growing them. There are a few US trees which have really caught my eye - it is slightly mystifying that they are not more popular in the UK - specifically the buckeyes and also the hickories. Might it be a case of not enough summer heat (as with lagerstroemias)?...See More- 16 years ago
