Not furniture...but other things. The latest was a small shovel for $2.99, a name brand...And i have seen it at my local hardware store for for $12.00.
If you like it and don't mind that it won't last forever. go for it.
But....if the furniture only lasts 5 years, that's about $125 per year....and if you get soemthing more expensive, say in leather and it lasts 10 years...that would be $300 a year for a $3,000 set.
If it doesn't look cheap....go for the disposable furniture.

I haven't bought furniture from Big Lots, but I have bought plenty of other things from them. You already know that you're not looking for furniture that will last 10 years. If this seems sturdy enough to last for a while, I'd go for it.

I bought furniture from Big Lots (upholstered) and it lasted less than a year. I have 3 kids and 4 cats, but I would not say that they were rough on it. The fabric was a chenille and it just did not wear well at all. I felt that it wasn't worth it. I was really disappointed because I loved the style of it. Just remember it's promotional quality and not meant to last long. On the other hand, there's no sense buying something super expensive with kids around (in my opinion). We ended up buying an Ektorp slipcovered sofa from IKEA. It's sturdy and I can change the covers as needed (for about $200).

All good points. Thank you so much for your responses. After sleeping on it and going back to the store, I think I will continue looking and just know that I have the option if needed. Sometimes you can catch a good sale on higher quality pieces. I think I'll see what sales ads come out in this Sundays paper.

We go the disposable route for our family room furniture with 5 cats and a dog. The good furniture is in the formal area where the pets cannot get to as we have an iron decorative gate separating the formal part of the house from the rest.

Our sofas are microfiber (fake suede). We decided against leather because the claws poke holes in it. The microfiber does well with claws and fur balls. We went to Sofa Express which makes really cheap sofas, but you can pick the style and the fabric. We needed dual recliner sofas because we are couch potatoes.

You reminded me of another question I had concerning the microfiber fabric. So you don't find it difficult to get the pet hair off easily? Seems like I was told that EVERYTHING under the sun clings to it, including pet hair and take a daily scrubbing to rid it. I'm glad to know you find differently because that does seem to be the latest trend. Any wear, slick spots, that you've noticed so far?
Man, I miss the days when I didn't care about quality - just color and price! ha This is quite a process.

I find the pet hair brushes right off of the micro fiber. My dog is a corgi and she sheds big time. It doesn't seem to attract much hair or fur at all. Our previous woven fabric was a pet hair nightmare. We use those rollers with sticky tape. I don't know the official name, we call them "kitty rollers".

We don't have any wear holes or spots. The cats do claw at the corners when we're not at home, so there is a little wear there. Usually the dog will bark if the cats do somthing naughty, but she's a little slacker while were at work.

Don't count on big lots furniture to last more than a couple of years....I bought one and after the first year it looked quite worn and after the second it was garbage.

No Way... I got a five piece quaker style bedroom set totally about $2000 from a decent furniture store. It was about a year later when I went into Big Lots and there was my same exact bedroom set! For way cheaper!!! Argh.
As long as you treat the furniture like you got it at the mall, no one knows the difference. They haven't a clue where you got it from unless they were looking for the same deal. I would assume the same place I got the furniture for $2000 is the same place you got ripped off by too. Lol.

If you really like it buy it, but be expecting that it won't last very long, and don't blame the salesperson when it starts to show wear really fast an d you have buyers remorse. My experience is that you get what you pay for. Good luck
