Almost everyone has aphids on the roses every spring. Ordinarily they do little or no harm at denser concentrations than your pictures show. If you have only a few roses, the easiest thing to do is just wipe off any thick encrustations. Unless you are an exhibitor who can't tolerate the slightest cosmetic damage, there's never any need for anything stronger than soap, if that. My aphids are disappearing in June as they always do, but I still have some shoots that have more than your picture shows. It's not enough to bother about.

Well, LOL!, I've been growing plumerias for about 8 years now and still don't have them figured out. Especially the optimal way to winter over. I've kept some growing, made some go dormant, kept some warm, kept some cool, in light, in dark, blah, blah. The ones that are blooming or about to bloom right now, I kept in an upstairs bedroom, kept them barely moist, and they received some light from a West window. Room temp was probably around 68 degrees for most of the winter. The ones that went deep into dormancy were harder to get 'woken up' and risk was greater for black tip. Also, putting them outside during cool and wet periods raises risks as well.

Hi Peg, I received your email regarding this GW post. Sorry to her your plumeria is having some trouble! In terms of details on what I did, I took regular household H2O2 purchased at walgreens and poured it over the affected areas of the plant stalk. I let it sit for a minute or two and then took a green scrub pad from the kitchen (those thin green scotch pads) and scrubbed the affected area. I had to scrub reasonably hard, but you do have to be careful to avoid tearing the skin of the plumeria stalk (this probably depends to some extent on how old your plant is and how weathered)... Some of the spots came off right away... others were more stubborn. For those I used a 2nd round (and 3rd for a few spots) of peroxide and focused on those areas. Before putting the plant back I tried the stalk with a towl to make sure I removed any extra moisture and then put it by the window. Whole process took 15-20 minutes at most. Not at expert on plumeria fungus so this may not have been the absolute perfect approach, but does seem to have worked. It has been 2 full months and I have not seen any re-growth of the fungus (or whatever it was). My plant is still dormant but I see no signs that it is having any adverse affects as a result of the above treatment. Looks happy and healthy to me :) Good luck and hope this information helps! "The restoration company put me up in a hotel (that insurance would reimburse)." Did you get it in writing? Hope you don't get stuck with the hotel bill. Whose name is in? If it is in your name you are legally responsible to pay it in full if you contracted for the room. Don't rely on a verbal promise from the restoration company. Also check your insurance policy to see IF they even pay for hotel expenses and/or if there is a cap on the total amount they will pay up to. Stay in contact with your insurance company. Call them daily. Find out the lease laws in your area to see if you are released from your obligation. There must be a landlord tenant group in your area to call for quick info. No one here can tell you anything specific without knowing the laws in your city/state.
