Hi Lori, If your plant was standing in water, it's probably the reason leaves are curling. I've seen it happen with other plants, just recently at Home Depot. It's a good thing you tossed out water..did it smell? How long was plant sitting in water? Does your pot have drainage holes? Monstera/Philos soil should dry before adding more water..Otherwise, they rot and grow spindly. Especially if it's sitting in a dark corner. I've read via plant books that Monsteras/Philos do well in dark areas, which I totally disagree with. On the contrary, they need light to grow, especially those w/large and/or variegated leaves. BTW, your plant is quite pretty..Toni PS, remove any mushy foliage/roots

I think your main problem is not enough light. Skylights don't provide as much light as one might think. I've had my selloum for five years, and the first couple of years I kept in indirect light (some distance from an east window.) It hung on, but didn't thrive, until I put it close to a west-facing french door, where it gets afternoon sun all year. It took off like gangbusters. I find that once it is in a good light situation (and nice, well draining soil), it does require consistent fertilizing to keep it happy. The link is to a picture of my plant, which I bought 5 years ago in a six inch pot. It is now in a 16-inch pot (I think the pot in the picture was an odd size: 14 inches across, but 12 inches deep.) Most of the growth has taken place in the past two years, since I started giving it lots of light. The picture is not where I keep it, just a convenient spot to take a photograph. Hi Hornetwife & all, You remind me of me. I am originally from Memphis and moved down here five years ago. In 1992 I bought a selloum and became instantly "bonded" to it. Watched it like a hawk and was so proud of every leaf. I remember once the dog knocked it over and smashed it up a little and I was so upset. And yes, it was a very slow grower. Anyway, in Jan 2002 I moved down here and brought my selloum with me. It had always been a house plant but when I got here they were growing everywhere so I put it out. Here it is today. It's about 7 feet tall and at least 8 feet across. Every day I look at it and I'm just amazed and sooooo proud! It makes blooms that are about 7 inches long and big, fat around every spring. I put the bleach bottle there in the photo to give you some scale. Anyway, it grew very slowly until I got it down here and then it went crazy. Obviously, it is out year 'round. Now, my Pink Princess...she just limps along. Sometimes I'm so tempted to toss her out of pure spite. If it weren't for the pretty pink, she'd be in the compost heap! She's slow and straggly.
