Here are some native ferns of Ontario: http://www.gvta.on.ca/flora/ferns.html (not all will be from southern Ontario though so you have to look at other resources as well) Here is a University of Guelph site which is a good resource for this region: http://www.uoguelph.ca/foibis/index.htm The native plant nursery "Acorus Restoration" sells ONLY natives to southern Ontario so anything there is regionally accurate: http://www.ecologyart.com/index.php And any field guide for southern Ontario is good. We usually grab some from the library with titles such as "Weeds of Ontario", "Wild Flowers of the North East" and so on. And lastly, doing searches online is the last method I use to determine if a plant is native to our southern Ontario region. Sites with range maps are MOST helpful but few and far between. Just going for walks in conservation areas and local parks helps a lot to learn what is native and what is not. Barb

Hi, I have been thinking about this thread. I think it was the spring swap that got confusing because we had about 5 threads going at the same time about it and you had to check all of them to figure out what information was posted where. I also noticed that the NH swap tried switching to the Exchange and only had about 3 posts to that thread since opening it and people kept posting to the Discussions thread. None of the other swap threads have 90+ threads, so they can continue to use the Discussion threads to talk about who is bringing what and what time it is and how to get there etc. and leave the exchange thread just for wants and haves. I don't have the patience either to copy/paste all the relevant information to a new post. So since I started the thread, I will open a new thread, on the Discussion list this morning. It will simply say Eastern MA Fall Swap 2005 Continued. If people want to continue to post everything to this thread that is fine, if someone would prefer seperating out the wants/haves to an Exchange thread feel free to start a thread there. At least we will then have only two threads going basically. Ready, set, go.. :-)

I alphabetized your tomato's list and fixed some spelling. I can do your whole list if you like but you can add in your numbers..it makes looking for and trading easier :) You have some varieties I never heard of like Apielson. No hybrids will be used. This establishes a fresh Seed Bank as well. Current and future goals are: raised-bed gardens, grains, water supply, storage and greenhouse. We are asking for a tax deductible donation to start "seed" money for such a project. Should such a project fail, monies would be donated to the local food pantry and people would still be fed. Projected Budget- $500 establishes the garden plot including seed. $3600 establishes a greenhouse and storage area. Overall projected budget of operation to start is $4100. A friend gave me some advice so I would like to post this ahead of time for all who are not sure what a named plant is: A named plant is not named by the color ie, Datura white and a common/scientific name doesn't make it named either, ie Gallardia..... What a named plant is: (some examples) Echinacea 'Sunrise' Brugmansia 'Dr. Suess' Chrysanthemum 'Clara Curtis' Aquilegia 'Nora Barlow' Gallardia 'Goblin' Hibiscus 'Fireball' and so on.......................... Any one else interested???? I didn't realize that there were other "named" swaps going on!
